Casa Villa Gardenia is a nice property and well-located for visiting Venice.
Positive Aspects:
Location: The villa is just a 5-minute walk from the train station, which takes you directly to the center of Venice in 10 minutes.
Service: The staff is polite and helpful.
Breakfast: The breakfast is very good and a definite plus.
Parking: The availability of parking is certainly an added value.
Negative Aspects:
Lack of Maintenance:
While the villa has an elegant charm, it loses appeal due to neglected details.
The door handles are scratched and old—replacing them would be easy and inexpensive.
In the room, the television is mounted crookedly, and the desk door where the fridge is located is also misaligned.
The desk is in poor condition and does not match the room’s style. Additionally, there was a menu from another hotel’s restaurant placed on top of it, which was confusing and out of place.
The headboard on one side of the bed is quite dirty, probably due to people leaning against it while watching TV. It seems like it has never been cleaned. The difference between the left and right sides is noticeable, raising doubts about the overall cleanliness of the property.
The hot and cold water in the sink are reversed, but not in the bidet or shower.
The shower has a major issue: the rail support for positioning the showerhead is broken, so it remains in the lowest position, reaching only shoulder height.
The shower caddy, where soap and shampoo should be placed, is completely broken and unusable.
The red cord along the staircase, used as a handrail, is visibly frayed and should be replaced.
The round magnifying mirror in the bathroom, located next to the large mirror, is broken and dangling. It cannot be adjusted in any direction.
Inconsistent Decor:
The interior design is a mismatched mix of old and modern, with low-quality furnishings that do not blend well. For example, the floor lamp in the living room, the metal and glass coffee table, and the modern picture frames on the walls all clash with the rest of the decor.
Exterior and General Appearance:
Above the entrance, there are both the Italian and European Union flags, giving the impression of entering an embassy.
In the Google Maps photo, there is also an Asian flag next to the Italian one, but it is unclear which country it represents.
Late Breakfast:
Breakfast starts at 7:45 AM, which is a bit late compared to most hotels, where it is usually available from 7:00 AM.
Uncomfortable Pillows:
The pillows were too thick and firm, which made it difficult to sleep comfortably.
Conclusion:
Despite the great location and the friendly staff, the lack of maintenance and poor attention to detail negatively affect the overall impression. The property has potential, but it requires some improvements to provide a more...
Read moreWe had a great experience staying at Casa Villa Gardenia, a quaint and lovely bed and breakfast. They have six old-fashioned, classicaly designed rooms, each uniquely furnished. We requested to stay in the blue room, to which the staff happily obliged. The room was spotlessly clean and just the right size for a couple guests.
September was still warm when we visited, so we appreciated having airconditioning in our room. For breakfast, they served a nice selection of breads, pastries, cereals, and salads. We had a hearty breakfast every morning before heading out to Venice center.
The B&B is located just across a stop for buses bound for Venice (Bus #6 or 6L), which had frequent departures, and a 2 to 3-minute walk from Venezia Mestre train station. Commuting to Venice takes only 15 minutes.
Of course, staying here would mean that you won't get to have Venice's romantic and beautiful atmosphere, but we chose to stay here to save ourselves from the hassle of carrying luggage on the many bridges of Venice and riding water taxis and vaporettos with them.
The B&B isn't perfect as it could still be improved, hence the four star rating. While we brought our own, it would be nice if toothbrushes can be provided for guests who need them. Also, the garden needs some improvement and upkeep, as it is the villa's namesake.
Still, we had a pleasant stay and would recommend this place for a short...
Read moreTerrible service ruined an otherwise decent stay. Before booking, I double-checked that the site clearly stated luggage storage is available and the reception operates from 7am to 10pm. However, when we asked to store our luggage, the man at the front desk insisted we return by 4pm to collect it, which completely disrupted our travel plans. We had to skip some sights and rush back, only to be scolded for being "too late" at around 4:40pm. While we were catching our breath in the lobby and checking our map, he came over again with a terrible attitude, demanding us to leave. Even worse, on the night of our check-in, we arrived at around 9pm to find a locked iron gate outside the hotel. We rang the bell, but no one answered. The phone number provided was useless — the man on the line was unclear and impatient, hanging up on me twice before I could even understand the situation. Two women, standing in the rain with heavy luggage in a strange, quiet street at night, not knowing if we would even get in — it was frightening. The location is great, and the room was okay, but it’s such a pity that the front desk staff ruined what could have been a...
