Never been a fan of Pasta dishes, but decided to try one, the restaurants looks posh and has a good ambience, decorated well. We got served straight away. None of the dishes appealed to me as I really wanted fish that day, I ordered the Carbonara without the ham, it was good that they allowed that but if you take an ingredient out is it wrong to ask to replace it with something else, anything... but they couldnt do that. I think the waiter forgot the black truffle, but the main waiter spotted it and added it. Now I dont know what Carbonara is supposed to be like or taste like, but in terms of my view, it was too dry, and was a stuck together stodge on a big plate. Is it meant to be that dry and stuck together, i dont know, but after I ate half of it was a drag eating the rest..would be better with some side sauce to accompany it. We also ordered baked vegetables, to be honest i wasnt impressed, it had some thing that looked like a mini octopus so had to confirm it as only vegetables, it also seemed impossible to cut and eat so I just lett it. The other veg was just average, theres wasnt any large tomatoes or cherry tomatoes which i was expecting, if you like slimy veg you will like this, not slimy as in bad but in terms of texture. Service was fast enough. Just lots of staff rushing and brushing past you while you eat which I didnt like. I didnt like the olive oil taste at all, ive had olive and this was far too concentrated and different taste. We were given three pieces of bread before our meal arrived and we were confused as to what to do with it.... so I just ate it dry which seemed weird. But we found out later we were charged 4 euros for it, even though we didnt ask for it.. I think this is wrong... 4 euros for bread pieces...
Read moreI had to catch a train so I didn't have time to linger. The angels at Soul Food Kitchen were happy to make me an order to go. I got the spaghetti with shrimp buzzara and fried potatoes. Everything was beautifully packed with napkins, bamboo cutlery, two delicious slices of fresh baked seed bread, a cup of grated Parmesan. Both the menu items I got tasted amazing - full of complex flavor even though they were simple dishes. They were not expensive - my pasta dish was 13 EUR.
The ambience of the restaurant is welcoming and a bit quirky in a hipster way. I was very pleased to discover thst there is a disabled toilet available for mobility impaired guests, and it is generously sized enough for a wheelchair to fit and turn around in. And not all chairs have armrests. Also there is some bench style seating in the cafe area that larger folks could comfortably use. I was blown away by the consideration and kindness shown both in the design of these features and in the genuine warmth shown by the staff to my very bedraggled self. I felt welcomed and I left happy.
A wonderful place, one that I am delighted to recommend to all, but especially to mobility impaired folks who need extra room in the bathroom. Only gave 4 stars because I didn't try ALL...
