Worst restaurant EVER! Avoid! Let me sum it up for you: 1) They are scammers, and, 2) They are rude beyond belief. The first part. It seems they have some sort of kickback arrangement with WalkAbout Tours of Florence (which we were with that day) about offering a fixed menu of €17,50 (drinks NOT included). What was included was an “appetizer” course of 5 extra-thin prosciutto and salami slices, and the main course of a tiny portion of the most overcooked pasta with pesto I’ve ever eaten. Needless to say, I was still hungry after. So far, everything can be excused, brushed under the carpet, in the name of having a memorable day. Right? But what came next was unbelievable. After climbing those 382 steps to reach Corniglia in the raging August sun, I was sweaty. So, on arrival at the restaurant, I took a cloth napkin from an unoccupied table to dry myself. No big deal, yes? Wrong. As soon as the lady manager noticed it was missing, her expression darkened. When I saw it, I could swear I felt her medication stop working. On the spot, she barked orders to the personnel to start looking for it. After coming back from the WC, my partner told me that on finding the napkin at my seat, the manageress grilled her about me taking it, that the cloth napkins were exclusively for paying guests (as if we didn’t pay), etc. etc. My reaction was to tell the manageress that I’d give them a very bad review, and her response was to shower me with the best that Italy has to offer in curse words and profanity. Napkin Restaurant, worst experience of our trip. I’m only sorry there isn’t a Zero score I could use for this review.

Surprised I didn’t get sick after this meal. This felt like a tourist trap. We were in a tour group visiting Cinque Terre and stopped by here for lunch. Our guides were raving about the food and we were told that it was run by an 80+ year old nonna. When we sat down and looked at the food that was in front of another couple, we asked how it was and they weren’t too impressed. I thought, maybe this couple doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I also wanted to give benefit of the doubt that maybe they were having an off day but, based on the meal I had.. it was terrible. The only good part of my meal were the few pieces of potatoes in my pasta. I had a seafood starter. The seafood was pretty bad. It was rubbery in texture and also a weird graininess when you start chewing. Not good at all. I don’t how how it’s even possible for the seafood to be bad when it’s right by the ocean. The pesto pasta was also bad. I knew to expect it to be different as, we were informed that pesto is made differently in this area. However, the pasta noodle alone was over cooked. It had the texture and taste almost like Chinese yi mein noodles.

Wouldn't let us just order just dessert, told us we could with a 2.50 service charge pp, but then when she came back, she said they couldn't. We paid for our $3 bottle of still water and left. This policy COULD make sense if they were packed, but they weren't even a third full. This city is packed with delicious restaurants and packed with views. We left and got gelato and watched the sunset from a vista. Much better than whatever this pretentious place was going to serve us. They have a good view, but that's far from special in Cinque Terre. It was so off putting to want to give a restaurant money for food and having them be like, naw. I'd personally go somewhere where they want to serve food for money, but that's just me.

It's hard to even begin here. The check in process was through the restaurant. It was a bit awkward as the restaurant was closed and I was told as I walked in "we aren't open until 7". I explained I was trying to check in.|I had emailed the property to ensure 2 single beds were available as that is what we require. They guaranteed it would be made up that way. No single beds when we entered. They did rectify and get 2 beds made up. With a single sheet and tiny blanket. The beds felt toddler sized. |The room is TINY. You can barely fit 2 suitcases in. The balcony was tiny and had a small table and single chair of awful quality. If you lean on the table it would practically buckle. What a waste for the view. The view was beautiful if you can get beyond the roof of the restaurant taking up a lot of your view. The terrace view however, was stunning.|The bathroom was modern and well equipped. The shower was so tiny. If you are a bigger person, this would not be suitable for you at all.|The room is just that. A room with a bathroom. Nothing else is provided. Not even a plastic cup. We had asked for another pillow (the ones provided were thin and had no support) and were told they don't have 'the key to the room where they are'. They didn't provide the pillow the next day either. Very argumentative staff. When I mentioned there isn't even a cup in the room she went on a tirade of "that's not what we paid for" and they don't provide that. She spoke down to me the entire time. She said no one had ever complained before about no cup or extra pillow. Seems ridiculous that asking for a cup is met with such an argument.|They have zero customer service skills. In the booking I made with Agoda, the site states that it has luggage storage (it DOES NOT have storage and it does not have a convenience store as advertised on Agoda).|Upon check in, nothing will be explained. No check out information etc.|The worst part of this place is the zero customer service skills.|I received a few emails from them being condescending. How I was aggressive for asking for a cup and pillow, how I clearly didn't read (which I did) from Agoda's advertisement and it was unreasonable to ask for anything else.|Corniglia is a beautiful little town. More than meets the eye and a lot quieter than the other Cinque Terre towns. There is plenty of other accomodation available. Go and stay there and not allow your accom to leave a sour taste in your mouth like this...

-The service was abysmal. We were charged for two meals despite ordering one. The server insisted in ENGLISH that it was "big for two" and "you only need one". So, at their request, we ordered one, singular, yet when we went to get the bill two, plural. Why? I asked the hostess to correct this and they state we order two, the server also says two... If this weren't my honeymoon standing there with my wife I would have called them criminals and excited while flipping them the bird.

-We were the first people seated yet didn't see staff for 15 minutes, two other couples arrived and received menus before our table.

-We were served bread without olive oil and balsamic yet two other tables despite arriving 10+ minutes later received both. Would have loved to have some but didn't see another waiter until our order arrived then gone again. Yet charged the service fee twice for what was mediocre bread.

-I watched two other couples turned away from better tables and seated elsewhere as staff said those tables are "reserved" when there were 10+ open tables just for couples and the reserved tables stayed empty... the entire time.. just incredible. The only people turned away from those tables spoke English... not sure if that's a coincidence. However, more astute observers might, based on rest of the service, identify some probable cause in this circumstance. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and not call it overt discrimination.

-The view is better than the food and there is a better view from the dock.

I seldom leave a review however, I made an exception here. The rest of the reviews say this restaurant is scam. The restaurant we wanted to dine at happened to be closed so we went in this one...

Heaven on Earth ||10/10 service, food and accomodation ||My partner and I had arrived into cinque Terre very late at night and we were starving. We couldn’t see anything open and it was raining and we were about to sleep in our car because we couldn’t check in to our house in Riomaggiore. ||We ran up the stairs to Yellow restaurant De Cecio as they were the only place that looked open with the lights on. It was 10.30pm We walk in to see the place empty with only the staff packing up. I asked if the kitchen was open even though I knew it was probably shut. They told us that they were closed but they could offer us spaghetti pesto. ||We were so relieved and thankful they fed us even though they had shut a while ago. ||They offered us amazing food and even asked us if we wanted dessert. We were chatting to the amazing family and sharing about our travels and about our life back in Australia. ||We told them about our hotel situation and they told us we could buy a room for the night. We were so greatful. We got shown to our room and walked in to a beautiful stylish modern room. |The shower had good pressure and the bed was so comfortable. ||We woke up early to check out and check in to our original room in riomaggiore. ||I opened the window on our room to discover the most amazing view of Corniglia. ||The sun was rising and the view was SPECTACULAR. Best view ever!!! ||The room was amazing. We wish we could have cancelled our accomodation in Rio and stayed here. ||Hands down the best view in Corniglia ||You must stay here. Everything was perfect. |Beautiful family owned business with exceptional customer service and food. ||Heaven on Earth ||Thank you...
