I cannot rate this place high enough. We were in a crisis when we arrived because I forgot my bag in the shinkansen on our way to Aizuwakamatsu from Tokyo. Because we were late, Junko-san, their very kind receptionist, came back even though she was already off duty. As soon as she learned about what happened, she immediately checked the train schedule for the next day so we can pick up my bag which apparently ended up in Sendai (the JR staff in the station helped us find it - also a very kind guy). We arrived past dinner time but they still served us one of the best dinners we've had in Japan and told us that they will be serving us breakfast at 6:30 AM the next day because the train leaves at 7 AM. In fact, breakfast starts at 7 AM. I would understand if we couldn't have breakfast since we had to leave early, but no, they adjusted to accommodate us. The following morning, Junko-san drove us to the station right after breakfast when it was supposed to be her rest day. I got my bag back without a hitch thanks to the kindness and consideration of the staff at Tagoto. The rest of our stay was absolutely wonderful. The room was comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff were lovely. This...

Read moreA beautiful old traditional wooden building in a quiet street. We chose a Japanese room with floor futons though I glimpsed the interior of at least one other room which had beds. Our room was actually 2 large spaces - one set up with the futons on tatami mats and the other set up with a low table, 2 low chairs and the TV. Traditional food served and it is also possible to have lunch and dinner here as well as the breakfasts that came with the booking. We did have one dinner. The staff were absolutely wonderful, especially the chief receptionist who spoke very good English and took great care to ensure my need for gluten free food was met for breakfasts and the dinner we ate. Highly recommend this inn. The bathroom facilities including toilets were shared but never once did I have to wait my turn for the facilities. We did have to book a time for the shower. Walking distance to many of the local sights though we also hired bikes one day which saved time and...
