LONG GONE WITH GOOD ATTITUDE JAPANESE THAT BOW 90 Degree and Serve with pride and good attitude… UNTIL.. we met the English speaking cashier at MUJI - MOUNT FUJI branch
While I heard the closing soon announcement, I quickly rush to my friend who was in the changing room and asked to speed up and proceed for payment.
We messed it up by going to self service thinking it’ll speed up the process. However, for tax refund, it could only be done at the manual cashier.
While I approach other Japanese staffs speaking to them, saying “sumimasen”to get their attention and plead for their help, they ignored us and gave a very straight face while continuing their whatever duties. We could totally understand their frustration as the store is closing, and wanted to just cancel the transaction and leave immediately as it’s our fault to stay put till almost closing hour announcement period, however the screen hung and indicated pending for signature. We are helpless and fear that the transaction already went through.
We tried our luck to speak English to the cashier(should be non-Japanese) to assist us. To our surprise, she not just helped to cancel the payment on the self checkout machine, did a payment reversal and proceed to serve us over the counter! Scanning, folding, packing and sealing into plastic bag without any bad attitude.
In the end we got the tax refunds and our item with her assistance! She even took the extra mile and went out of the Muji store to direct us to the lift as the mall is closed.
I am giving this 5 stars to thank the cashier who served us warmly. I should have asked for her name! Hi sweetie, we can’t thank you enough for your patience and kindness!
