We spent one night in this self designated “high end hotel” whilst on our journey to Kyoto. The property is a sprawling behemoth with 44 floors it presents well with an elegant lobby . Checkin and out was efficient but very unfriendly partiality due to the fact that the reception staff have either no second language or very poor skills , very unusual for a property with a high percentage of foreign guests.Baggage handling from Lucas was however superb. Our room (4411) was compact as you would expect in a city Center hotel ‘ with a superb city view and was reasonably equipped and comfortable but was slightly dated , connectivity was good as was sleep quality. The bathroom reflected the room and was very dated with a shower curtain(yuk) and an in bath shower with a shower handle instead of a more modern rain shower toiletries are individual not pump action and robes are provided water pressure is good.Housekeeping is as expected with a very clean room and bright white towels and linen , public areas are equally clean . There is a complementary breakfast which is standard buffet style and is a mixture of western and Japanese cuisine both are of a good standard , as with reception language skills are not the best. Finally there is parking available for a fee but the parking garage is a nightmare as yet again signage is mainly in Japanese. with occasional very smal signs directing you to the hotel in short my wife and I are fortunate that we travel consistently throughout the year and have stayed in some fabulous 5 star hotels unfortunately this was not even close to one to be fair it’s cheap for this category of property but you get what...
Read moreExcellent hotel in the heart of Hamamatsu. 5mins walk from the train station and you are greeted by this magnificent lobby with a welcoming reception area. The musically themed decor continues in the various areas of the hotel from elevators to the room. I stayed in a Premium Twin room and it was fantastic, lovely and modern with an exceptionally clean room and bathroom. There is a TV, coffee machine, kettle and fridge for my convenience. The rooms are well stocked with complimentary water, bathroom amenities, and coffee/tea.
My room also came with breakfast from which included your standard continental breakfast options, hot food options and Japanese breakfast items. I will admit I'm not sure what the standing price of breakfast is but anything much past ¥2000 and I don't think it's worth it. The quality of the food is acceptable and warm but the range isn't there and I've stayed in cheaper hotels with far better options and although some of the items are from the local area it seems none of the hot items appear to be.
The service is impeccable and I cannot say anything bad about the staff they are outstanding, even when dealing with overly obnoxious guests, that were staying the same time I was. When I requested extra items for the room they were very prompt in bringing them and as I was part of the One Harmony program (I would recommend joining) I was also delivered a copy of the days "The Japan Times" to read.
Overall this is the best if not one of the best hotels in Hamamatsu, very much...
Read moreMost of my travels around the world have not offered me the luxury of a hotel like the Okura in Hamamatsu. My travels have also not brought me to Japan in many years. My stay was very good. From the moment I walked into the lobby until I checked out the staff always made me feel like a valuable customer. Every staff member was eager to help with everything from helping with my bags to making sure I got to the correct elevator each and every day. The language barrier was always broken completely with the courtesy and respect all staff showed me at every opportunity. When I arrived to my room I called for a few amenities to help me plug in my laptop, my 43rd floor room seemed to make travel to and from the lobby time consuming during peak guest activities, but the concierge delivered all my requested amenities within a few minutes of asking for them. I was very impressed. The breakfast that came as part of my room rate was consistently top notch compared to anything I've had in stateside hotels. Of course I don't stay in such luxury normally. I would gladly stay again. My only suggestions for improving would be the bed mattresses were quite firm. Perhaps new mattresses or the optional amenity to add a memory foam topper to make the mattresses not so firm. Other than that, the hotel as a whole was awesome! The musical theme rings throughout the hotel in every detail. Great staff, great hotel, fast, free internet, great breakfast. I would stay again...
