Hiroshima. It's hard to describe in words the emotions that this city can manifest in people. It's certainly a great array of emotions, from highs to lows.||||This hotel is most certainly a high. ||||The best part of this hotel was that I didn't know I was going to be staying in a retro 80's themed, come prolific hoarders den, come local baseball themed hotel.||||I'd say I was filled with equal parts confusion, shock and awe as I entered the main lobby/reception area, to see such wonders as: Lion statues, tacky fake cats, and my personal favourite - Clown dolls.||||The hotel at this point had already won over my heart. That was until I stepped foot into my room. I think the term 'baseball themed' isn't doing this room justice. It was quite overwhelming, to the point that I was so awestruck that I forgot to take pictures.||||This hotel is very close to Hiroshima station, only around a 8-10 minute walk. It's extremely central and convenient ( as are so many things in japan ) to attractions such as Hiroshima tower, and trams to the peace museum, and the a-bomb dome.||||Do yourself a favour, and book yourself into the superbly named Hiroshima Intelligent Hotel. If the name alone isn't enough to win you over, the lobby and rooms will.||||This place is more...
Read moreIt's worth visiting this place for the interior design concept alone. It's a crazy collision of 1980s decor, strangely placed stuffed clowns, fake cats, white rabbits in lift shafts, stone lions, seven stone dwarves, fake flowers and a lounge 'inspired' by some trans-European fantasy image. None of this appears to be ironic. It does, however, succeed in being slightly confusing and just a little creepy. "The Shining."||||The hotel is actually 2 buildings semi-joined in the middle (it rains in between). This means that the lift to the rooms is up a flight of stairs so the staff have to carry your cases. The staff are very helpful. ||||Apart from that, the hotel is close to the train and bus station and baseball ground (hence the baseball themed toilet roll on sale at front desk...). The room was decent but tired, and good value overall. There is some noise from the railway tracks. Unlike other Japanese hotels, this one wasn't kept at an unbearable temperature thank goodness. Breakfast was basic, but kitchen was...
Read moreThr hotel is several minutes away from the South exit of Hiroshima station (on the left side). The main building looks old but still retains a certain charm. The reception is on the 1st floor whereas the lobby is on the second floor as well as self-service laundry and the elevator. The rooms looks newely renovated and have low beds. There are some basic amenities in the room like a small closet, a microwave and a kettle as well as a mini-fridge (turned off by default). The bathtoom has all the modern amenities you can expect from Japan like a washlet, toothpaste, mini comb and shower amenities. However, could not find an electric outlet inside the bathroom so had to use the hair dryer outside it. The WiFi password is in front of the TV but my experience with WiFi on the 8th floor was quite spotty. The hotel is next to the train tracks so you might hear the trains but it is not too bad. Oh, if you exit the hotel to the right and turned the corner before going straight, you will end up in the...
