Sotetsu Fresa Inn Hiroshima Sta. — Hotel in Hiroshima

Situated just a stones throw from Hiroshima station and close to shops, malls & streetcars, there was even a family mart in the same building on the ground level. The room was on the 14th floor overlooking the city and canals but was really small with an open wardrobe with hangers, desk with a kettle, clock, phone, writing pad and a mini fridge underneath. Even though the room was small there was storage space under the bed which was pushed up against one wall, a compact bathroom with shower over the little bath tub. Breakfast was buffet style with a good assortment of cold and warm dishes, juices, tea coffee, toast fruit salads and yoghurt. When asking for basic assistance staff seemed very robotic in their responses speaking into their little translator gadget and pointing out the response to you. It just felt very cold and uncaring even though it may not have been their intention. Furthermore, the man with the suit just outside the front desk (who looked like a manager) seemed unsure when we asked about the location of Hiroshima castle. He directed us to take the streetcar or train which took us 25 minutes plus a 15 minute walk from the train station. But when we were returning back to the hotel we decided to take the bus which was not far from the castle and took just 5 minutes back to Hiroshima station. Really enjoyed staying at this hotel!|Check in is all done using a machine to scan passports and issue 2 keys.|Loads of free amenities available at reception and things can be loaned from the front desk.|Lawson supermarket is next door which is great for late night snacks.||The hotel is situation a few minutes away from Hiroshima station and has great transport links for the electric car (trams).||There are 3 lifts and these get quite busy in the morning. The key pass is needed to access the lift which provides reassurance with safety.||There is a coin laundry with 4 machines with the option to wash and dry (2hr cycle 3kg load). We did a 6kg load and then did a dry cycle but did this for 1.5 hours and the clothes were still damp (split over 2 machines).|The machines seem constantly in use and we had to keep returning to gain access. This was from 10pm-2am. There may be better luck in the morning. ||Room was one of the larger ones in Japan that we stayed in. Room is well designed and had enough charging ports and designated space for storage. Room, bedding and bathroom were clean and there were signs that the water provided to the hotel is purified so you could drink from the taps. ||Comfortable stay and smooth check out....
