GYUKATSU Kyoto Katsugyu Hiroshima Ekimae — Restaurant in Hiroshima

Our experience here exceeded every standard level of quality. The restaurant was clean, inviting and warm. The staff were all so welcoming and accommodating to us (our Japanese is very limited) and they tried very hard to make us feel welcome.

The food was outstanding, absolutely nothing to fault. The steak was all cooked to perfection, we ordered one half & half sirloin/tenderloin & a sirloin only.

I can't describe in words how this experience was special, it transcended rational thought. My wife & I will not forget our meal here. The staff all deserve high praise, in particular the gentleman looking after the clientele did such a great job of checking in at appropriate times and keeping our miso topped up.

Now I've had to find other locations to visit throughout the rest of my stay in Japan to go again.

Nice little restaurant located very close to the Hiroshima Station.

We went in with high expectations based on previous reviews.

The interior is small, maybe 6 tables. Decoration is simple but cute. The chairs are not comfortable so keep this in mind if you are looking for a place to relax.

There are english menus. Our waiter had limited english but was patient with us and tried to explain how to eat Gyukatsu.

We ordered tenderloin. It comes with a few things like egg, rice, curry, etc. The waiter explains the steps on how to eat it, the menu also has a section about it.

The meat itself was really good and it got a lot better after “preparing” each bite following the steps given by the waiter.

I cannot emphasize enough how good this place was! It was our first time trying gyukatsu and this place was near our airbnb. We walked here and were immediately sat. The service was spectacular and the staff immediately provided an english menu as well as instructions on how to properly enjoy the gyukatsu. It was so good I had to get a refill. Unfortunately we were only in hiroshima for one night, but if we would have stayed longer I would have gone everyday. I decided to try gyukatsu at our next destination in Japan and even though it was good, nothing compared to this one!
