Despite the hotel's visually appealing appearance and a range of amenities, the staff's apparent lack of understanding when it comes to genuine hospitality significantly hinders my overall experience. This inadequacy was highlighted by their refusal to accommodate my reasonable request for a pillow, as someone who suffers from back problems. In the hotel industry, it is unacceptable to deny a customer's request, especially when it concerns their comfort and well-being. 冷たすぎる。 For those interested, I encourage you to read my initial review. Although the hotel itself is impressive, the staff's inability to grasp the true essence of hospitality led me to downgrade my initial four-star rating to a disappointing two-star assessment.
As a hotel blogger who has experienced over 100 hotels in the past 5 years, I've seen and learned things that most travelers might overlook.
My most recent stay in Kawasaki came about due to a last-minute change when my Airbnb booking turned out to be a scam.
The hotel, although located quite a distance from Kawasaki Station, proved to be an interesting choice. It was initially difficult to find, but the station itself offers excellent connections to Shinagawa (for the Shinkansen), Kamakura, and Yokohama.
Upon arriving at 11:30 AM to drop off my luggage, I was informed by the receptionist that check-in started at 3 PM. As a visibly weary traveler with two large suitcases, I would have appreciated an offer for early check-in, even if it came with an additional cost. This simple gesture could have made a difference in my overall impression and potentially secured a repeat customer.
Returning at 3 PM for check-in, I noticed an issue with the hotel's understanding of passport copy requirements for foreign guests. One receptionist began processing my reservation, but another receptionist interjected, insisting that they needed to take a copy of the passport for all foreigners. She spoke as if I wasn't present or couldn't understand Japanese. However, it's important to note that Japanese law requires passport copies to be taken only for foreign guests residing outside Japan, not those living within the country. It would be beneficial for hotel staff to be well-versed in these regulations to avoid confusion or misunderstandings.
As someone who does not reside in Japan, I had no qualms about providing a copy of my passport, but the interaction highlighted a potential area for improvement in the hotel's customer service training. During my check-in, the receptionists failed to mention the availability of rental items. Was this information only provided to Japanese guests? The room, while small, featured a stylish design and a fantastic projector. Space was limited for luggage, but the bed's design allowed for suitcase storage underneath. Complimentary beer was offered at 6 PM, though the brand remained a mystery.
Sleep quality was a mixed bag. The mattress was comfortable, but the sheets were too thin and the pillows seemed like a cost-cutting compromise. However, breakfast was delightful. The French toast with fruit and black coffee were exceptional, and the à la carte menu lent a touch of luxury that exceeded the usual buffet fare. Kudos for a five-star breakfast experience.
Overall, this hotel seems to cater to Japanese millennials experiencing their first hotel stay, with an affordable price tag of 6,000 JPY. For international travelers, I'd recommend opting for the twin bed room, as it provides more space than the...
Read moreOur stay at the Slash hotel in Kawasaki has been a great experience. This new hotel gave us a discounted price during booking.
We received good service from the staff. They were friendly and always greeted us with a smile. Upon arrival we received coupons for free drinks in the evening. Everyday they offered free tap beer between 17:30 and 18:30 at the lobby/bar. And they allow you to get another (and perhaps more, however I would recommend not to abuse the system)! The hotel's interior looks fashionable and well designed.
The room was clean and a bit small, but cozy. Furthermore, it was equipped with a projector that allowed us to watch movies on a roll-out banner from our bed. With a controller you can (un)hide the banner as well as adjust the bed to an upright/couch position. You only need to provide your own movie on your phone or laptop; they can provide a bag that contains cables, dongles, and a chromecast!
Accessing your floor with the elevator requires your room card, which is a plus regarding security and noise reduction. If you wish to bring your own food, the tenth floor offers free of charge kitchen appliances, utensils, and a coffee/choco machine! The hotel also offers washing and dryer machines for a small fee.
The only downside what we perceived, is that the hotel is situated in an uncomfortable neighborhood. There are many bars where you can get a (what I assume) perv/peep shows. In the evening, people try to persuade you to come inside and have banners with scandalous dressed women on it. I would not recommend to go here, if you are bringing your children along. Sometimes during the night we heard drunk people from the seventh floor, it was a small nuisance.
While the location might be a downside, at the same time the hotel is very close to many shops and the (Keikyu -) Kawasaki stations! Keikyu Kawasaki station is easy accessible to Narita Airport. I got a non-transfer line that arrives before 7:00 at the airport, which is sufficient to get through the customs (open from 7:30) and catch the flight around 09:00. Tokyo and Shinkansen (closest is from Shinagawa) are furthermore easy accessible.
To wrap it up: price/quality ratio is excellent. If I happened to be in Tokyo again, I would definitely book this...
Read moreI absolutely loved my stay here, this was the hotel I stayed a in 2024 for my first trip to Japan and for my second trip this year in February. I knew without a doubt I wanted to stay here again when I came back. The staff is so kind and sweet, they were such a great help and I truly appreciated that the lady at the front desk who helped me check in remembered me from our phone call that was almost a week prior to my booking. This hotel offers a very modern and luxurious experience. The rooms are so clean, stocked with amenities, like luxury hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pajamas, slippers and one of my favorite features it the projector and the IPhones to control the beds. I loved my stay here the first and second time. It is super close to the JR Kawasaki Station and Keikyu train station. Which made getting around quick and convenient. I also had breakfast every morning I stayed and it was delicious. My favorite is the French toast with the fresh fruit, they also give you a plate of salad with pasta noodles and that I actually looked forward to each morning. I highly recommend booking here to get a luxury experience at a exceptional price! I visited Tokyo each day and it was always a short train ride being that it is close by. I saved lots of money by booking this hotel for both trips! (I posted a quick video on my TikTok of my stay...
