Hotel Town Center — Hotel in Kochi

Budget hotel that is well located (8 minute walk from JR Kochi Station) and on the edge of the night life district. Rooms are alright for a decent stay, the bed a bit on the hard side but otherwise ok. There is no distinction between smoking and non-smoking rooms so I guess smoking is allowed throughout so be prepared to smell some inside the room (bad for those sensitive noses). Try to request for rooms on the north side (facing small river) as the rooms on the south side could face some street restaurants that operate deep into the night and which brings some drinking spree noise to your room even with glass windows shut. The staff is very courteous, they can keep the luggage for you or give you a car parking space (500 yen per day). Breakfast is standard fare, various kinds of bread, butter, jam, chicken soup, hard boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice on a free flowing basis. Bread toasters abound too. This hotel in Kochi was a disappointment, even taking into account its budget classification. The room was expectedly small, but it felt dirty as soon as we walked in. The carpet had many stains in it, which is unforgivable in this day and age. The bathroom had not been cleaned properly, as evidenced by random hair around the sink. We've been in many budget hotels in Japan, but many still prioritize cleanliness and comfort. Unfortunately this hotel did not. The hotel is easy to find, a short walk from Kochi train station. It has seen better days but is clean and comfortable. The mattress in my single room is the most comfortable I have slept on in three weeks of travelling Japan. The staff speak very little English but we managed to communicate the essentials. Breakfast, included in the room price, was of good quality and variety. I booked the room at a special rate through Agoda, but even at normal rates it is good value.
