An unique shrine that I randomly stumbled across while I got lost. Right next to the road I saw Emas with samurai sword next to a parking lot.

Walked a bit on the stairs and finally reached the temple. It had no one. So I had to ring the bell to get the receptionist.

They have a really cool Ema. Along with that, they have multiple Goshuins. Two sword-theme Goshuins that comes on a paper. The other two dont have a sword on them, but they are hand drawn. I went with the sword as it...

My friend and I went there for Nagoshi no Harae. Unlike the ceremony held at Yasaka shrine, it was autenthic and not too crowded. The setting is great, because the shrine area is small, located on top of a stairway, among ancient trees. You can also take a stroll along a canal which flows near there (10 minutes by foot going west). I think it's worth visiting even when there isn't any...

Awata Shrine is a small, peaceful temple surrounded by a serene garden. The dragon water spout here is perfect for cooling off, especially on hot days like today when temperatures reached 37°C. A quiet and refreshing stop on your Kyoto itinerary.

Neat little shrine that enshrines Susano'o no Mikoto and Ōkuninushi no Kami, plus a bunch of other shrines as well including a tenmangu, and Ebisu shrine. They had Omiki (sacred sake) available to try, and a neat hall of treasures. The Omikuji here are shaped like birds which was really cute!
