Unfortunately I was disappointed in my experience here. I had issues with noise. The rooms are very close to each other and if you wish to get some rest during the day it is impossible because there are constantly people coming and going with so many suitcases! And cleaning rooms. Kyoto is a compact city and it’s nice to come back to your room for a quiet rest but I found this difficult. I was on the second floor, I imagine the first floor is worse. In general, besides the nice soaking tub, the room is nothing special.
Also, I wanted to go to Fushimi Inari in the middle of the night when it is empty and quiet and so beautiful. It was impossible. They lock you into the hotel from midnight to 5am! I asked many times if they could allow me to do this but they couldn’t. At a “4 star” hotel (which I think is generous…) you make a solution! What if you have a medical emergency or want to stay out late? Jet lagged and want to go for a walk? You are literally locked into the hotel. Unacceptable.
The food is incredible but steak 3 nights in a row was too much for me. The service in the restaurant was perfect and the food incredible. But 3 nights of steak in a row is too much. They are very strict about what time you eat so you need to plan your whole day around what time you will eat. What if you want to do something spontaneous? Impossible.
I have been in Japan for 5 weeks staying at smaller more austere places. The was supposed to be my one special hotel experience of the trip. I feel very disappointed.

Read moreWe visited Japan as a group of eight: myself, my wife, her parents, her sister, and her sister’s family. The hotel was kind enough to accommodate us in two rooms with three beds each and a single room with one bed.||From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and accommodating. They did a wonderful job making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. They took the time to explain the hotel, its property, amenities, and even shared insights into Japanese traditions.||Everything about this place is thoughtful, neat, and immaculately clean. The common lounge areas are peaceful and relaxing, perfect for unwinding.||Early in the evening, we set out on a short walk to visit some nearby shops. Just a couple of minutes into our stroll, the sky suddenly opened up and it began to pour. We ran back toward the hotel, only to find the staff already waiting with umbrellas. As we stepped inside, they kindly took our soaked shoes, just as they do every time you enter, and set them aside to dry. It was such a small gesture, but one that really captured the care and attention they bring to every detail.||The bath was easily the best I have had in years. It was a truly calming and rejuvenating experience.||We woke up feeling refreshed and enjoyed a delightfully peaceful breakfast.||This stay was a perfect blend of hospitality, tradition, and comfort. Highly...
Read moreTop notch customer service , amazing hotel , beautiful interiors and the best part you don’t feel like you are away from home at all. The hosts at Muromachi Yutone ( we primarily interacted with Mr Yoshi and Ms Fujki amongst others) were simply amazing humans who’s sole mission in life is to make the visit from patrons of the hotel a memorable experience for years to come.
Upon our initial checkin we left our luggage since we happened to be a bit early. We came back late in the evening and Mr Yoshi took us to show the property and our room while walking us through the amenities ( they do offer a dress for walking around in the hotel with and as well pajamas for bedtime ) and locations for the breakfast area , coffee area etc. Right after, we settled in and absolutely enjoyed it all the way.
We did have a couple breakfasts at the hotel and a dinner and everything that the chef and team put together was no less than an Omakase offering in itself.
Wonderful hosts, great vibes, some amazing spots for cute pictures in the property as well and the willingness of the hosts to make the stay so much more memorable and enjoyable for the guests definitely helps put this in our list to revisit , when we happen to be back in Kyoto.
Thanks to the Muromachi Yutone team and until next...
