The kimono is beautiful. The lady who helped me get dressed was friendly and professional. The 2-star is for the other terrible services. I tried to change my reserved date because of the typhoon. Never heard back until the day. I still went and get dressed. It was raining heavily. I tried to call a taxi using UBer. Nothing available around. Then I asked the receptionist to see if she can call the Taxi company for us. She said no taxi available, and weirdest thing is that she stopped another lady who was trying to get us a taxi using the local taxi app on her own phone. Btw, you need a Japanese phone number to get the local taxi app. Then the receptionist suggested us walking to the main street to get a taxi. Yes, I walked 10 mins in the heavy rain wearing silk kimono, geta and white socks in a typhoon day. Believe me, this is an experience you won’t want to have. Conclusion: the worst service I have ever...
Read moreAwesome Kimono rental, a group of friends and I stopped in after looking all over for last minute kimono rentals and we were quickly helped with fast and friendly service even though we had accidentally came in when it was just about closing time. We were all outfitted and one of our friends was even allowed to use the dressing room for free. 10/10 would recommend for anyone visiting Kyoto and wanting to...
Shockingly bad service by the front desk staff. Rude, lack of empathy, and questionable work ethics.
I paid for the full service (~$200 USD) and expected quality results. As a first timer on Kimono earnestly wishing to experience this culture, I asked a few simple questions on wearing and comfort. Instead of helping me understand the Kimono better, the front desk staff scolded, ridiculed, and shamed me for asking, and lectured me on how I could be culturally insensitive and inappropriate for "potentially" using their rental service incorrectly. They also blatantly refused to provide a reachable phone number to address the questions arised during the rental, stating that they are unavailable after 2pm. The unpleasant exchanges with the front desk staff overshadows the reasonable quality of the cloth and the commendable dressing effort made by the back alley staff. Echoing another commenter's sentiment, I've never received this level of horrible service in Japan. Avoid...
