Gion Kyoto Ramen — Restaurant in Kyoto

We were waiting outside, and no one came out to ask if we could go in.

Suddenly, a group of 4 tourists just walked in and grabbed a table bypassing us.

We then decided to walk in, and then the chef told us to wait outside very rudely.

They wanted to split the 6 of us by sitting 4 of us on one end and the other 2 of us on the other end.

We then requested the bar seats and began to place our orders.

An incorrect order of an extra plate of gyoza was given to us. Amidst the confusion, we ate one gyoza, and then the chef spoke in Japanese after the confusion and then left the plate there.

After a while, we asked the staff that we were missing one item and the chef suddenly just said, "I am one person cooking, wait.. ok.."

He also went back to his routine of asking customers to wait outside in a rude manner.

While making payment, then we were told that they are charging us for the additional gyoza.

After all these experiences, I was baffled by such a service attitude, and then I realised why it had such low Google review rating

Food is "meh" while service is bad; and you definitely can find better food elsewhere at the price you are paying.

Decided to stop by even though they didn’t have the best score and then I went through reviews. 100% agree people are grading them down for stupid tourist reasons like not getting the noodles in their desired texture which is completely stupid if they didn’t ask for it cooked soft, but I digress. We got the special Gion ramen and it was solid. Broth was flavorful, noodles perfect, pork tender and meaty. Is it the best place I’ve ever eaten ramen at, no but it’s def a good place to grab a bite if you’re in the area. Place was very clean and staff was attentive and very polite. We are ASKED if we would like English menu which was refreshing for the usual staff assumptions of tourist needing them. Food came out within minutes of us...

the waitresses were touching the meat (beef chicken) with bare hands after touching the door, menu, and after serving other customers. quite unhygienic. more a tourist trap than an authentic local restaurant . the cook also wears latex gloves, but was also seen handling the cash/ payments with the same gloves. we asked ourselves what’s the point of wearing those gloves to prepare the meals, but at the same time handle dirty money? if he’s the cook, he shouldnt be handling the money at all. definitely cannot...
