Regretted trying this udon shop, the assistant and main chef had very bad and terrible attitude. Firstly, they were slightly annoyed that we had a toddler with us. Secondly, they told us off the minute we sat down, to have our toddler keep her hands off their condiment tray. They simply thought she was going to break them. Thereafter, almost immediately, the main chef stormed out from the kitchen, started removing all the items from our table and mumbled angrily (or cursing in japanese) at us. At that point of time, our 20 months toddler happened to stand on the chair, and the chef gestured angrily to take off her shoes if she wants to stand. Throughout the entire lunch, you could see how frustrated they were for having us as customers.
We generally lost our appetite and just wanted to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. it was such a terrible experience to be paying money for a meal, & get scolded whilst sitting in a hostile environment. We thought the restaurant chef should be abit more tolerable, at least to a...
Read moreI am shocked by the low reviews. We loved this place. I had the curry ramen and it was amazing. I loved all of the toppings/pickles/etc. It does have a spicy kick to it after a while which is expected but I love a little heat. My fiancé had the tempura ramen - I tried a bite of his udon and it was also very good.
We are clearly foreigners but I know a little Japanese so I didn’t ask for an English menu. There are pictures so even if you don’t understand Japanese I feel like it would be pretty easy to figure out what looks good unless you have allergies or are vegan or something. Everything has a picture, even the drinks.
Some people mentioned unfriendly staff, but that was not our experience. They were fast, attentive, and polite. They even kept our water glasses topped off. Service itself was also fast. It did not take long to be seated and also receive our food. I feel like the service was good.
Overall, 10/10 would recommend!...
Read moreI had the most disappointing ramen experience at this shop in Kyoto today. The staff repeatedly told us they were "closed" when we asked twice about opening times, even confirming they wouldn't open the next day. However, right after we turned away to leave, they suddenly opened for other customers who walked in! Only when we confronted them did they let us in.
The food was nothing special compared to other ramen shops in Kyoto. But the worst part was the service: while we were still eating (and hadn’t even finished our bowls), a staff member tapped my friend’s shoulder and hurried us to leave because "there are people waiting outside." This is incredibly rude!!!!!!
We felt discriminated against and unwelcome. Why lie about being closed? Why rush customers midmeal? Avoid this place if you expect basic respect or a pleasant dining experience. There are plenty of amazing ramen shops in Kyoto—don’t waste...
