There's a trillion options in Kyoto. But if you want to feel a real Japanese neighbourhood for a change, go here. Huge rooms, especially for travelling in Japan, as you are basically renting a flat, Tatami floors, Futon beds, Shoji walls, the whole thing. As it is not a Hotel but more of an Airbnb type of thing, you can't expect breakfast or any kind of Hotel service, but the woman managing it was very helpful and kind. A very nice change to take from the mini-rooms you are renting in typical hotels. We stayed as a family of four and absolutely enjoyed it. But: It's a 5 min walk from the station, not too many options around for food and drinks, and it's away from the city center - no walking distance. Nothing touristy around, no real infrastructure for travellers - and that's what you have to love about this place. There's a supermarket close by, and it's at least close to a "live like a local"-experience and for our Japan trip, both adults and the kids (13 and 15) found this to be a highlight stay. Additionally it is comparably cheap. Can only recommend this if your're not the kind of guest who needs lots of attention...
Read moreAki-san's place was a beautiful home located near JR fujinomori station (about 5 min walk). Also, there is Sumizome station by Keihan line in walking distance (about 10 to 15 min walk). You can pretty much get to major attractions of Kyoto, Nara, Uji, etc. etc. very easily from her place. The neighborhoods are very clean and quiet. I stayed at 5 people's tatami floor room with my husband thinking it might be way too spacious for us, but it turned out we definitely loved having our own living room, bathroom, and spacious bed room. Aki-san and her husband were so informative - they provided me detailed directions and what to see in Kyoto & other nearby cities. Aki-san also recommended and helped me booking an awesome Japanese Kaiseki course meal restaurant. It was one of the most unique and memorable experience I got to enjoyed in Japan. The city has so much to offer; I and my husband did not get to see a lot of sites yet during our 4-night stay. I will definitely come back to Kyoto soon and book Aki-san's...
Read moreIt was my first time travelling in Kyoto and I considered which accommodation is the best to me for long time. I chose this accommodation and stayed, then I’d like to recommend this accommodation definitely. It has so many good things for travelers; clean and huge room, cozy bed, kind host, quiet place, close to the station (about 5 min walk from the station), and especially if you stay here, you can feel like real Japan. The atmosphere around the house is I felt like Japan like traditional mood, as well as the night view in front of the house was so beautiful. We can also borrow special traditional Japanese clothes, Yukata. It was really really good experience to me. She has a few various pattern Yukata and we can select. I can experience real Japan while staying here. It was also close to the convenience store, so I can get easily some snacks or drinks. If I go to the Kyoto again, I don’t hesitate to stay here. It was the best...
