Hidden gem just outside of the more popular Gion area. Lovely location and cozy atmosphere inside. Reservation is recommended but not required (I personally randomly walked in), the prices are great for a half/full Kaiseki lunch/dinner. The staff is extremely friendly and will try their best to explain every single component of the (many) dishes. Great prices for all the variety and quick and excellent service. Multiple chefs/waitresses will bring you the food just at the right time without you having to do anything and will care about every little detail. The food is all delicious and prepared with a great variety of fresh seasonal ingredients. Be sure to say thanks and smile all the way at the end of the meal, as the staff will follow you up to the street to show their gratitude...

Managed to get a Japanese friend to help make a reservation via phone call, which saved us a lot of extra fees if you were using the Web booking.
We ordered the ¥22,000 dinner Kaiseki Set, which includes Lobster and Kobe beef.
Seasonal ingredients served in the set were amazing and very well paired.
Service was top-notch, as they tried their best to explain what are the current seasonal ingredients that were used in making the dishes.
The room that we were seated in was actually beside the Maiko Room, and we managed to catch a glimpse of Maikos.
Maiko performance is available, but at extra prices, but I didn't opt for it.
Overall experience in Hanasaki Manjiro is superb, and I would recommend it to celebrate...
Read moreI was told that this was the third restaurant of Manjiro. The building is over 100 years old. The atmosphere and food was excellent. The service was also excellent too. I would recommend this for people who would like to eat Kyo cuisine. Kyo cuisine has been dated back for centuries. The menu will change during each season for the menu is based on what is edible during that season. (Spring, summer, autumn and winter.) Whether you are a Japanese or a foreigner, this place is a good choice. It is always good to have a reservation, For they must prepare the food at least one day in advance. As a Japanese, I would be recommend the course that is ¥8,000 and above.
Happy dining!!!...
