Rooms It's your standard japanese business hotel room. You get good value for what you pay for though given probably that this isn't a very heavily tourist-visited city. The rooms are decent, there are all sorts of amenities provided in addition to chilled mineral water available when you arrive which was a godsend given that we arrived in the japanese summer which may rival Singapore weather for its unique ability that whatever condition you leave home in, you will arrive at your destination drenched in perspiration.
Service With the exception of the counter staff who checked us in who probably had a bet with her colleagues that she was not going to smile, acknowledge or make eye contact with the next tourist showing up, our experience in this hotel has been amazing from a service level. Attentive and supportive that we have a 1 year old in tow , the staff at the breakfast were very nice and attended capably to our needs.
Location The location is ok if you don't mind a bit of walking. The other business hotels around the station are located a wee bit nearer to the sights (it's matsue so it's just the castle) but I think the service quality, the breakfast and the price more than makes up for it
Breakfast Special mention to the inhouse breakfast buffet. One thing I love about japanese hotel bfsts is that they always showcase the local delicacies and this one is no different. From akari clam soup to eel to flying fish cutlets, I was very impressed by and enjoyed the food.
Definitely a place worth staying at if you ever...
Read moreVery comfortable Hotel. Rooms are a westernise version of your typical Japanese room. There is wooden floor at the entrance of the room where guests are encouraged to take their shoes off. Then you have two types of slippers (one to use on the carpeted area of the room and ones to use inside the bathroom). Inside the bathroom there is a separate place to shower/bathe. There is a full range of extras on display: razor blades+gel, shower caps, tooth brush+paste, shower mitt/towel, a hair band and your normal soap+shampoo+conditioner. Inside the room you have a desk, kettle, coffee/tea and bottled water. Breakfast buffet was delicious with a variety of western and Japanese food and a smoothie bar. Dinner was a bit pricey (all you can eat buffet) given that there are cheeper options are. The food was lovely though! Matsue has the advantage of not being a cosmopolitan area (if quietness is what you are looking for). There is a department store (Ichbata) across the street from the Hotel with a supermarket on floor -1 that sells a huge selection of ready meals including some of the freshest sashimi+sushi. I loved to rent a bicycle (300yen/day!) and ride up to the Castle! I really hope to return to Matsue, I never...
Read moreThis is a very nice hotel in Matsue. It appears to be quite new and was very clean. The rooms are on the small side but pretty typical of rooms I've seen so far in Japan (which isn't that many). The front desk employees are very helpful and try their best to solve your problems. Their English is good, some better than others.
The breakfast, if it isn't included, is ~1900 Yen which is a bit pricey. I recommend walking nearby to the Urban hotel that has a nice breakfast for half the price.
If you sign up as a Tokyu Comfort member you should be able to get 10-15% off of your room rate which is also nice. As at the front desk.
It is across the street from the Matsue train station. To get from the train station to the hotel, take the escalator downstairs (underground) as soon as you walk outside. Then walk all the way until the end and walk up the spiral ramp or take the stairs/elevator and you'll come out on the other side of the road just a half a block from the Matsue Excel...
