I stayed here during a 3 day weekend in October 2024. I had booked late so it was difficult finding an affordable place to stay in a good location. This place was actually a little bit over my budget so that could be influencing my opinion a little bit.
First, I'll talk about what I liked. The room was sufficiently clean (with one caveat that I'll mention later). There's a Lawson convenience store right across the street and a supermarket just a few more steps past that. The location is nice. Shinsekai, a popular stop for tourists, is within walking distance. The bed was really quite comfortable and the cat theme throughout the hotel was very cute. The drawing of a cat telling me to have a nice day on the door of the elevator was a pleasant thing to see in the morning.
At first, I had put the staff in my list of things that were "so-so." They weren't bad, but overall their disposition seemed pretty average. Kinda like bare minimum politeness. But on the morning of my checkout (October 13th), there was a young woman working who was very helpful, smiling, and had a good energy to her. She gave the service that bump into 4 star territory.
The free bread in the morning and coffee/tea/water available throughout the day are very nice. One thing that I wish they had were some condiments to add to the bread. Something like margarine and jam would be really nice to have alongside the free morning bread.
The room was clean but also small and very basic. There's no TV but they include a small fridge, bidet toilet seat, and a hair dryer. I would have expected a little more for the price but, again, I booked late on a holiday weekend.
The one thing that I would say was "bad" about the room was the presence of mold. I don't live far from Osaka, so I know how difficult it can be to manage mold growth. But the room could use a few shots of mold killer. There was a crevice in one corner where you could see it growing. The A/C unit had a not insignificant amount on the inside and there were some black streaks on the shower curtain. There was also some black marks on one of the cups in the bathroom. I didn't know if that was mold but I didn't want to chance it.
I had one incident where I requested a new towel from the front desk. The man asked if I needed a face towel or a body towel and I confirmed I needed a body towel. The towel he gave me looked correct while folded, but the next morning as I got out of the shower, I discovered he had given me one of those bathmat towels instead of a body towel. It did the job but wasn't ideal.
The clothes iron had major mineral build-up inside. I was trying to iron a dark shirt and pushed the button for a blast of steam. What I got was a dribble of water trying to work around clogged vents, followed by a burst of white powder all over the shirt. I managed to shake it off the shirt thankfully. Please remember to do regular cleaning and maintenance on your iron.
Overall, I think I would stay here again if it were a little cheaper which it probably is when you book earlier and not on a...
Read morePro: Close to shinseikai and daikokucho station is useful to go to anywhere. The rooms are clean and sufficient. Do note my room has no tv but you are so tired you sleep anyway. I like the morning coffee and bread, their coffee is STARBUCKS!! very tasty. Staff always smiling and greeting, patient. I also stored my luggage before checkin which is useful. Soap shampoo hand wash hair conditioner is provided. Hair dryer. You can get bedroom sleepers trash bag tooth brush comb shaver from level 1. The bedsheet is quite thin but it was still comfortable to sleep. My window could open a little for fresh air. I found the toilet clean, however if you’re taller than 1.75 maybe ceiling too close for you. If you’re abit big size maybe not okay. I bumped into things getting from toilet to shower or turning around. It is abit small. It’s a good hotel for budget traveler’s so you can spend money on sightseeing. Lighting in room is adequate. Two pillows for double single room. FOOD&supermarket: there is a nakou restaurant that is cheap and you can order from the machine in English. tamade supermarket with many food, Lawson is just in front of hotel too. Noise: many ambulance pass by but it’s not too loud. I could hear some knocking randomly but I don’t hear talking the room is fairly sound proof. Con: the bedsheet is really weird too thin so I ended up sleeping on the duvet instead. The duvet is abit yellow inside (it is not zipped at one side so you can see) which I wasn’t happy about. The table is too small. so if you have makeup there’s no big table or a big mirror to do that. The provided mirror is small. The bathroom counter is too small too. No kettle provided. No cups no utensils. So bring your own. The shower water would run hot but when it runs out, then it get cold but if you let it continue. then less than 60s it goes back hot. If it’s winter you may get a shock...
Read moreThis is a fantastic hotel that is close to, but far enough away from the noise and chaos that is Dotonbori. The closest station stop is Imamiyaebisu, and it is one stop from Namba station if you take the Nankai-Koya line. So you can get to Dotonbori in 15 minutes or so.
We stayed in a Japanese Double Room for one night. And a Japanese Two Twin Room for another few nights.
They were comfortable. But be aware that the rooms are tight. It will be a challenge to open two large clam shell luggages at the same time.
We were here in February, and the temperatures in the rooms were comfortable enough. I am not sure how the rooms get in the summer. However, in both rooms, there are AC/ heat units.
In terms of amenities, there is free coffee, tea, and water in the lobby at all times. Bread is from 7am to 10am (I think). You can get free pajamas. We took medium. However, we noticed the large sizes were not available. They do offer cleaning, but it is via a 3rd party service. So, if you want them to do laundry, you will have to give them at least 2 business days. I do not remember the fee. There is coin laundry a few streets away for you to use as an alternative.
The staff are incredibly helpful. I had to forward luggage to Haneda Airport, and one of the staff members made sure to schedule shipping of the luggage so that I would not have to pay any additional storage fees in Haneda.
Overall, I highly recommend staying at this hotel. When I visit Osaka again, this is the first hotel I will check for...
