IL Grande Umeda — Hotel in Osaka

We have minimum expectations when we booked the hotel early this year because of the contrasting reviews about it in various websites. Some reviews said that the rooms are too small, that breakfast is the same everyday, that it can be quite noisy at times, that some rooms smell of smoke even if what was requested are non-smoking rooms, and that the hotel staff can't understand English. The only redeeming factor, it seemed, was how near it is to one of the subway stations. These made us prepare for the worst psychologically, i think. ||||Yes, it is indeed near the Minamimorimachi Station of Sakaisuji and Tanimachi subway lines (about 2 blocks away from Exit 4-b). There's a Lawson branch a few meters away from the hotel. And a great wall in the hole curry restaurant on the same side of the street (Sakai Curry).||||We didn't find the room small. I guess it can be for others' standards. We feel the size of the room, the bed and the bathroom is just right. In fact, everything that a person needs for a restful stay has been carefully considered. We specifically enjoyed wearing the "bathrobes" after a long day of sightseeing or shopping and we loved the feel of the bed. The pillows are kinda hard to sleep on though.||||Yes, the breakfast is almost the same everyday, the variations are infinitesimal that one can almost missed it, but I find the selection quite interesting and tasty. Don't forget to eat the croissant. It's their bestseller!||||It's true also that the noise from the streets outside can be heard from the rooms (we are at the 10F, and our room has a window). But we didn't mind it and it didn't stop us from getting a good sleep at night. We are probably too tired to mind the noise anyway.||||Our rooms, all 5 that we booked, didn't smell of smoke. We also requested non-smoking rooms and was quite apprehensive that we'll be getting otherwise. So we were happy to note that there were no concerns on this part.||||The best surprise of all is the fact that they put all of us in 1 floor. When we emailed this request, their response is non-committal. It was such a pleasant surprise that they granted this request.||||It is also true that most of the hotel staff do not understand or speak English and the few who probably does, speak very limited and simple English. Aunque reservamos en enero, resultó muy complicado encontrar hotel para los 15 días culmen del Hanami. No queríamos salir de la zona de Umeda, pues está más o menos cerca de las estaciones de tren y de los preciosos paseos (cuajados de cerezos en flor en nuestra visita) del río O. Además, dado que haríamos una excursión a Hiroshima de 2 días, queríamos utilizar el mismo hotel en los dos periodos a dormir en Osaka (así podíamos dejar las maletas en el hotel e ir a Hiroshima solo con una mochila), y busca buscando dimos con este “Grande Umeda” de nombre italiano pero bastante japonés, pues de nuevo nos dieron habitaciones pequeñas con baños pequeños (por supuesto, NO fumadores) y de una calidad notablemente inferior a las contratadas en Tokio y Kyoto. Una recepción amplia, casi lujosa y bien atendida por personal con un inglés casi básico, daba una imagen mejor de lo que luego resultarían las habitaciones. Una vez más la cama (de 135, colchón, sábanas y almohadas discretas) tenía un lado pegado a la pared, con una ventana y moqueta por todas partes (algo gastada y manchada). Una TV plana con un canal para la BBC, un mueble con todo lo habitual en Japón (minibar, tetera, bandejitas, tazas, humidificador…), climatización individual, poco sitio para el equipaje y menos para “pasear”. Los pijamas más bastos que en Tokio, pero igualmente cambiados a diario. El nivel de limpieza no cumplía con los estándares japoneses, habiendo restos de polvo en ciertas zonas y algún restregón en las paredes. El baño no era tan bueno como los hoteles anteriores (más plástico), con bañera y con una ducha mediocre (poca fuerza), toallas normales y amenities buenas. Nos dieron el piso 10 (de 15) pero frente a los ascensores (2 algo escasos para tanto personal), lo que, unido a que las paredes no eran demasiado aislantes y a que algunos huéspedes tenían la costumbre de dejar abiertas las puertas, se nos colaban voces e incluso gritos de niños en nuestras habitaciones, ruidos que se prologaban hasta bien entradas las noches, por lo que el sueño no fue demasiado bueno. La situación del hotel era buena, pues podíamos ir caminando a las extensas galerías comerciales cubiertas junto a las estaciones de metro o a las riberas del río O, donde los cerezos en flor invadían el ambiente; también teníamos a pocos minutos una estación de metro (Osakatemmangu) y otra de tren (Minamimorimachi), donde podíamos enlazar con todas las líneas de la ciudad y del extrarradio. Los desayunos, sin ser destacables, resultaron ser buenos, pues a un comedor amplio en la 2ª planta podíamos añadir una cierta variedad de fiambres, huevos revueltos, verduras y frutas más los habituales platos preparados orientales, pan tostado con mantequillas y mermeladas, cafés de máquina automática (varias clases de té), zumos… y lo mejor del desayuno (y posiblemente del hotel): unos sabrosísimos croissants, recién hechos, crujientes, pequeñitos, tostados, a los que no era fácil resistirse (tampoco los japoneses, que se ponían unas pilas enormes de estos diminutos dulces en sus bandejas) y que cuidaban de reponer continuamente. El wifi era bueno tanto arriba como abajo y había dos ordenadores con Internet (donde era difícil alcanzar pantallas en caracteres romanos) a disposición de los clientes. Allí también nos guardaron (sin coste alguno) las maletas antes del check-in, después de la salida y lo mejor, durante los 2 días que duró la excursión a Hiroshima. No fue el hotel deseado, pero no estuvo mal, aunque considerando los 80€ por noche y habitación (con desayuno) podíamos haber recibido algo más limpio y moderno (las llaves son todavía de...

Das Hotel liegt ca. 100 Meter von der U-Bahn Minamimorimachi (Sakaisuji Line), Ausgang 2, entfernt. 24-Stunden-Minimärkte wie Lawson liegen in unmittelbarer Nähe, ebenso mehrere Restaurants & Kneipen.||Das Hotel selbst macht äußerlich zwar nicht viel her aber bereits die Lobby ist äußerst großzügig angelegt und hochwertig ausgestattet. Check-In war unproblematisch, Englischkenntnisse des Personals ausreichend. Ob Kreditkarten ohne Probleme akzeptiert werden weiß ich nicht da ich bar bezahlt habe (nur etwa 35 Euro für eine Nacht wochentags).||Tipp: lassen Sie sich gleich beim Check-In das WLAN erklären - man muss sich auf einer japanischen Internetseite registrieren und alleine haben Sie ohne entsprechende Kenntnisse keine Chance.||Die Fahrstühle sind schnell, die Gänge deutlich breiter als sonst in japanischen Hotels. Auf den Fluren stehen Hosenbügler bereit, die man sich ins Zimmer mitnehmen kann.||Mein Zimmer knüpfte zwar in Punkto Hochwertigkeit nicht an die Lobby an, war aber für japanische Verhältnisse recht groß (das größte Einzelzimmer das ich in mehreren Japan-Aufenthalten hatte) und mit einem 120 cm breiten Bett ausgestattet. An zwei Seiten des Betts konnte man gut vorbeigehen, auch wenn man sein Gepäck abgestellt hatte.||Klimaanlage war vorhanden, ebenso Fernseher (ausschl. japanische Programme), Kühlschrank, Wasserkocher und Klappfön. Ein Yukata/Bademantel wird gestellt, ebenso Hausschuhe in zwei Größen.||Die Japan-typische Einfachverglasung des Fensters, das zur Seite ging, isoliert den Schall von der Straße zwar nicht vollständig, wird aber durch einen undurchsichtigen "Schieber" ergänzt, mit dem man das Zimmer fast komplett verdunkeln kann (bis auf das Licht, das vom Gang eindringt) und auch eine hervorragende Geräuschisolierung schafft.||Das Bad bestand aus Toilette mit Waschfunktion, Waschbecken und Badewanne-Dusche-Kombination. Ungewöhnlich ist, dass Waschbecken und Bad/Dusche aus denselben Hähnen (warm und kalt getrennt - keine Einhebelbatterie) gespeist werden und je nach Bedarf umgeschaltet wird - funktioniert aber problemlos. Einwegrasierer und Zahnbürste werden ebenso wie Shampoo, Flüssigseife und Conditioner gestellt. ||Das Mobiliar war zwar nicht neu aber ebenso wie Teppich, Bettbezüge/Bettdecke und Bad tiptop sauber (was leider auch in Japan keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr ist...).||Insgesamt ein sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt - die große Lobby, breiten Flure und relativ großen Zimmer schaffen eine sehr angenehme Atmosphäre.||Fazit: Bis auf das WLAN habe ich diesmal absolut nichts auszusetzen und wenn man sich rechtzeitig Hilfe holt geht auch das - eine klare Empfehlung!||||Tipps zur An- und Abreise: ||Wer Osaka per JR-Zug erreicht und nicht mehrfach umsteigen will, kann das Il Grande Umeda auch noch zu Fuß vom "Hauptbahnhof" Osaka Umeda erreichen - ca. 1200 Meter. Schweres Gepäck sollte man allerdings nicht haben, denn es müssen mehrere Überführungen bewältigt werden. ||Wer per Nankai-Line vom Flughafen KIX kommt oder zum Flughafen KIX will, steigt am besten an der Station Tengachaya um und erreicht das Hotel / den Flughafen dann mit nur einmal umsteigen.
