There are many great features at this hotel, and I want to give it a 4.5. Its excellent location is right on Shirahama beach - walk out the door onto the beach; Lawson's, restaurants and other convenience stores are a short walk; good view of the beach and the fireworks that seem to be a nightly event - fireworks packs are on sale in the hotel shop. Great kaiseki and shabu-shabu meals in individual tatami rooms, hosted by kimono-clad servers. Spacious 2 12-mat tatami, plus 1 ~10'x10' living room suite with comfortable beds and futons, up-to-date bathrooms/bath/shower and 2 separate toilets are available. The room has water heater for tea, a safe, A/C control, TV, good lighting. The ladies and mens indoor and outdoor onsens are huge, with many of the necessary accessories: shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hair lotion, aftershave, combs, brushes, digital scale, Q-tips, large and small towels, keyed lockers. Plan to stop by the Suger [sic] Lounge between 3 and 6 to enjoy complimentary chilled wheat tea, water or (my favorite) plum juice. There's an outdoor swimming pool and adjacent snack bar with seating in the shade. The disappointing: coffee is not served with any meals, nor is a coffee maker and coffee provided in the room (not even powdered coffee or add hot water packs). It's only available for ¥500 in the Suger [sic] Lounge. Wi-Fi is free, but reception in the room was poor, with frequent drop-outs; other areas were better but inconvenient. Some of the staff were rude, perhaps chauvinistic (but most of the staff were helpful, friendly and polite). Free shuttle from train station was infrequent and makes too many stops, so...
Read moreJust arrived. No buses / taxis from the train station as arrived late and it’s a small town. Fortunately a wonderful man from another hotel kindly took pity on us and brought us to the Shiraraso Grand Hotel. He was from Kaigaku Shirahama and he refused any money for his kindness. I suggest you check his hotel out.
There was no prearranged pick-up or care that their guests would be left with zero transport options to get to their hotel. The hotel were aware of our arrival time.
On arrival the receptions wanted to charge us an extra £140 for the room as we had booked one child on the app which in Japan is classified as an adult as our son is 12 years old. It made the rate significantly higher than what we had paid for the next two nights. When we questioned the disparity we were told that if we didn’t pay it immediately then we would have to leave. The receptionist was very rude. At this point it was after midnight so we were stuck and had to pay the extra money
The hotel looks tired and does not reflect the pictures at all. The room is dusty and the beds on the floor uncomfortable and we have all woken up with bad backs. The bathroom looks like it was decorated in the 1970s and represents something out of a tiny caravan. It also had hairs in the sink.
The rates of over £500 is a total joke. Do not book this hotel. It’s the worst hotel we have stayed in and the...
Read moreWe visited Here for a two night stay. It’s located next to the beach. Check in was straightforward enough, and there was free valet parking outside the hotel building. |We had a decent sized tatami room with good view of the beach. There was not that much storage space, and there was television, safe, hot water kettle facilities. The room had a small bathroom with limited amenities, probably because amenities were provided in the two onsen that they have. The yukata was for provided adults only.|The rate included a Japanese style breakfast at there restaurant, so may not be to everyone’s taste if you are from overseas. |They have two onsen, which alternate between men and women’s opening schedules. Both are of decent size and are well maintained. One included an outdoor bath looking into the sea, which is nice, but it is quite open.|The beach is next to it, which looks clean. There is a children’s playpark as well just outside, which was convenient for us. Also opposite the hotel is a decent sized supermarket and discount store, so the hotel is very well situated. |We did not include dinner into our stay but the concierge was helpful in guiding us to restaurant locations, which are a nearby...
