Hotel Kawaroku||I booked the Hotel Kawaroku after discovering they have a new tower and therefore it may be under-rated due to the older reviews. I stayed for 2 nights in a New Main Tower Single (High Floor). My room (1316, on the 13th - top floor) was one of 2 rooms that faced North. It had a nice view over the rooftop to the Seto inland sea. It was peaceful to see the ferries coming and going. ||The hotel’s location could not be more perfect - 14 min walk south-east of Takamatsu station and a 4-min walk to Hyugomachi bus stop where you can catch the Airport Limousine bus to Takamatsu Airport. It is located at the North end of the downtown shopping and restaurant district within the Katahara machi shopping arcade. ||The room was new, modern, with a nice modern Japanese decor, though small even by Japan standards. Even the toilet was compact. However it was a corner room with 2 large windows and was well laid out which made it feel less cramped. There was a long desk, and plenty of electrical outlets including 3 right on the headboard. The bed was very comfortable and there was a pillow room on 1F where you can choose from many different types, if you want an extra pillow||The room came with breakfast which was a Japanese-style buffet served from 6:30-9am, with an egg/omelette station made to order.||The public bath is very nice - gender-separated men’s and women’s facilities include an indoor bath, change room with lockers, tea dispenser (hot or cold), sauna, showers and wash stations. You have to bring your own towels and toiletries from your room (except body wash, shampoo and conditioner, which are supplied). ||The relaxation lounge on the same floor (2F) is amazing with 12 massage chairs (mixed gender) and 3 private chairs (women only). All are complimentary except for 2 special chairs in the mixed gender area.||I used a translation app for most of my communications since I speak little Japanese and staff spoke little English.||This is not a luxury hotel but it is very high quality and amazing value, especially given all the amenities. I would highly recommend staying in a New...
Read moreWe had a 3 nights stay in a semi-double room, and while we had expected the room to be small, we recommend that you should upgrade to a larger room.||The good: ||Despite being very small in size, the room tried to incorporate everything in it,e.g. a cup on a hotplate to boil water, TV, a bath tub, a small tv. ||We picked up disposable shaver from a small container placed at the lift lobby, and extra pillows from the pillow stations. For ladies, do remember to choose your amenities early, as some of the items may run out. It was definitely useful that we get to pick what we want.||While it was a bit of a walk between the hotel and JR Takamatsu Station, it was within walking distances to many restaurants. We enjoyed our dinners in Takamatsu very much.||Buffet breakfast at the hotel was very affordable, with plenty to eat. In fact, the hotel room prices were also very affordable.||The hotel staff spoke reasonable basic English, sufficient to communicate.||The not so good:||The room was quite dated, and some things were in need of replacement. I had to tug the wire a little for the hair dryer to work. The humidifier in our room had water inside it from long ago, and the metal bits were oxidised. We did not attempt to use it, since we did not find it critical. This might be just pertaining to our room though, as our friend in another room had hers working perfectly fine.||It was abit difficult to get the correct water temperature for shower, and it was winter... So this was really a big...
Read moreA taxi costs about 700 yen for a trip to the JR station. I know that because I almost missed my train and the front desk was very helpful in getting a taxi for me...||||The hotel is convenient to central Takamatsu, but a bit of walk from the JR station (especially in the summer heat). From reading other sources, this hotel is the biggest in Takamatsu and I have no doubts about that. It's spread over three buildings and there are two large public baths (one for each sex). The rooms are quiet as far as I can tell, but I don't think the place is full. The building itself is old and the architecture is different for each building. English is limited, but it got the job done.||||Takamatsu is famous for udon. Please ask the hotel for a map of udon restaurants in the area. The closest one to the hotel is a place that has been in business for over 65 years (maybe 75). I don't...
