Guesthouse Ouka — Hotel in Takayama

Really disappointing. We've booked 2 nights in a Japanese style bedroom for a couple and when we arrived the lady told us our bedroom has a problem with the bathroom so they've "upgraded" us. However instead of a Japanese style room with futons they gave us a western style bedroom with 4 single beds. The room was boring without any Japanese style. We aren't in Japan to sleep in the same bed (and even inconfortable ones in Ouka Guesthouse) than at home. They said we are lucky because we have a big kitchen on our floor of 3 bedrooms. Yes true but we didn't mind as we didn't plan to use it at all. And the second disappointment was that on our floor there were 3 bedrooms and one of them had a big Japanese door so pretty sure it was a Japanese style bedroom. Unoccupied for 2 nights. Anyway. The room is a lot bigger than I expected it to be. I could open my (clamshell-type) luggage fully and still have space to walk!!The hostel is located about a 10min walk, down a straight main road, away from the train/bus station/terminal. Not exactly a pleasant walk in the summer heat, but for the price I gave it no mind. Am very thankful that the hostel has an elevator, saved me from having to lug my luggage up the stairs. It’s also such a sweet touch for the hostel staff to left a sweet (handwritten) welcome message on the bedside table! Takayama is rather walkable city, so it wasn’t troublesome to get to most of the tourist...
