I had problems writing this review as this hotel served what I needed but at the same time quite shocked at the lack of warmth of the reception staff.||We arrived around 1pm but there was a sign which said they were closed! Who closes a hotel reception? Esp for a tourist town??!! Not realising they meant the full reception was closed as the sign was on one corner we rang the bell and a VERY grumpy man came and told us it’s 2pm for check in. Fair enough but he was so brusque and unwelcoming.||Mind you, I booked the triple room and it wasn’t cheap so this is not like its a hostel hotel or anything. Pity abt the staff as the location of this hotel is superb. 2 min walk from the Takayama station and the Nohi bus station. Short walk to all the pretty sights Takayama has to offer.||The triple room was v spacious by Japanese standard and a typical capsule size toilet with shower.||I would recommend this hotel if it’s a good rate as the location is really good but don’t expect any service. Read moreLocation: the hotel is located right opposite the train station. When you arrive at the train station, just cross the road and turn right. Right next to the train station is the bus center so it is convenient for those who are taking a day trip to shirakawago and kanazawa like myself. Facilities: there is a laundromat with only 2 machines for washing and drying on the 2nd floor. The machines only accept 100yen coins and you can exchange at the reception. There is also a sauna on the same floor. There is no weighing scale available. Room: unfortunately, at the end of May 2025, the hotel was refurbishing their air conditioning system so there was no air conditioning in the room and it was a bit hot at times. Other than that, the room and toilet were quite clean. Water pressure was good. Water temperature was slightly inconsistent but acceptable. Toilet had a faint smell but it wasn’t too bad. Read moreWorst hotel I've stayed at in many years. I walk in and pull open the sheets to hop into bed and there are two black hairs (I don't have black hair) and then the next morning when I shower there is black hair on the inside of the shower curtain. It's very clear they didn't clean my room.
I requested late checkout by phone on my checkout day at 7:30 am because I wasn't feeling well and wanted to sleep. But to my surprise I was awoken by a phone call telling me I'm passed checkout time. I said let me call you back in a minute. He called a second time to awake me and he said no one called him or talked to him about the late checkout. Finally, he solved the problem and it was a matter of staff not communicating.
