Very well done, classic leather chairs at the lobby (I might be biased because I love quality leather and woods, so it's a 5 star start here for me), walking around map available in like 9 language in a thin easy to carry flyer, heating visible underneath front desk decorated with faux smoke and lighting creating even more warmth ambience arriving from cold night outside (I arrived at a mild 8° on a 9 PM early march weather), free cold and hot green tea, info on rental car, vending machine on trivial necessities from diapers to contact lens and hair gel so we don't have to make a late night minimart run. And that's just at the lobby. Comfy room with air purifier and air con. 7th floor restaurant, adjacent to both separated and family hot spa and relaxing lounge after taking the spa. This hotel prepares all and everything I can think of for hospitality strategy class, and I picked up a thing or two here! (Like separate bath and closet, so it cuts my family's time in taking turns to prepare themselves in half. Well lit (lighting at the) sink mirror, the girls really appreciate that. I just stop here now with this review. 5 stars.
It's me again, forgot to upload photos so might as well add more lines review here. Quality toilet is a big plus factor for many and I'm happy to say it's better than even M gallery Kyoto (M gallery have top quality fluffy thick down feather blanket though, can't say anything beats that after a freezing night walk and hot shower). Pic attached on the toilet control, I used my phone to translate while doing my business and found out the top one says cleaning strength and below says wash position. Surely this will help someone. Done before I found hot spray button though, you're on your own there. Small mirror extend horizontally to the shower, never seen that before, I can shave while taking shower and washing my face, again cutting down precious time during travel. Full body mirror at the room door. These guys thought off EVERYTHING. Can't say I found such continuous low cost innovation at my regular accor...
Read moreMy recent stay at the Wat Hotel & Spa Hida Takayama was a delightful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the hotel's thoughtful amenities and welcoming atmosphere. Ample parking is available (a reasonable ¥800 overnight fee applies), making it a convenient choice for those traveling by car. I also opted for the breakfast buffet (¥1000 per person), which offered a delicious start to each day. The friendly front desk staff spoke excellent English, making check-in a breeze. A particularly nice touch was the welcome drink coupon, redeemable for a refreshing beer or soft drink at the self-service bar – a perfect way to unwind after a journey. The rooms at Wat Hotel & Spa are spacious and comfortable, featuring well-appointed bathrooms with excellent shower facilities. The hotel's onsen, located on the top floor, is a true highlight. The private onsen is available on a first-come, first-served basis, offering a relaxing and intimate experience. Simply lock the door, and the space is yours to enjoy. The hotel is also family-friendly, with a fun touch – guests can help themselves to a complimentary popsicle after their bath. All the essential amenities are provided, including combs, soap, shampoo, and comfortable bathrobes, readily available in the lobby. My stay at the Wat Hotel & Spa Hida Takayama was truly rejuvenating, and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting this...
Read moreA really comfortable hotel room in Takayama. The room is big and clean. The bed is really comfortable. It’s a short walk from Takayama Station and the old town making it a great location. The hotel is quite strict about the 3pm checkin (which I’m usually okay with). I stored my luggage and returned to the hotel later and there was quite a bit line of people waiting to checkin. For me, if the rooms are ready and the guests are a little bit early it doesn’t make sense to be so strict about the 3pm checkin. It creates inconvenience for the guests and a stressful time period for the staff. They moved as fast as they could but it could be improved. It’s disappointing to see another Japanese hotel enforce rules just for the sake of enforcing them rather than logically think about the situation. Also, when informed about the baths, I asked if I could use them with a tattoo and I got a vague answer which didn’t answer my question. I ended up using a public bath at a neighboring facility. I respect Japanese culture but it would be better if staff could give a clear answer rather than feel awkward about a tattoo question. It is 2025 after all. The hotel breakfast was decent but it’s extremely crowded with limited seating. I sat downstairs which was fine with me.Overall, I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Takayama but there is definitely room for...
