Hotel is brand new and beautiful, the staff are helpful and wonderful, even leading us where to park the bikes we had rented so that they would be out of the way of other guests. The rooms are clean, but I need to point out a serious design flaw. There's an automatic light that turns on with a sensor and no way to disable it, we asked. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to add this to a hotel room, but it sucks. It's disruptive and makes nighttime bathroom access a nightmare because it wakes everyone else up in the room. The beds are hard, but typical for what you would find in Japan, so if you like plush, western-style beds, look elsewhere. Otherwise, the room is spacious in comparison to most hotel rooms that you would get in Japan and the breakfast has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which is wonderful and not something you typically see. I love the free juice in the lobby in the evening and we enjoyed the free umbrella rental to walk to the nearby grocery store. We experienced the public bath (onsen/sento) on the top floor. Maybe the mixed bath was more pleasant, but I found the public women's bath to be way too hot to be enjoyable and a bit dirty. There was dirt floating in the water, including a toenail from someone. It was a bit gross, to be honest and unhygienic considering it's a public bath. I understand the staff can't control what others do in the bath, but I think cleaning it better could at least be taken into...
Read moreVery nice Hotel virtually in the middle of Takayama. 5 min from old town, 5 min walk from train or bus station. Beautiful rooms with slippers and Japanese pyjamas. If checking in early as we did, you drop your luggage at reception and they provide a receipt, but it is not locked away anywhere. We were in a hotel recently that provided racks and locks to attach bags so nobody could walk off with them..maybe something for management to think about. We were also caught out with the fridge..after 24hrs realised it was turned off..so lost some food items taking caution. Check fridge is on when u check in. The baths are amazing and very relaxing. Mixed one if u want bathers but true Japanese in male and female is way to go. Free coffee and tea in afternoon and snack in evening at reception area. Would be good if coffee was in the rooms so that was lacking, but ok if you are a tea drinker. Beds fantastic along with all amenities. Friendly and very patient staff who were most helpful...
Read moreBooked this hotel as it was priced quite well compared to other accommodations in the area. Turns out it’s brand new and very clean. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and everything was very clean. The rooftop onsen and sauna were excellent and made the stay even better than we could have imagined. Breakfast is decent- a bit of a small selection but well managed. Only feedback- there are automatic lights that are on a 3 minute timer in the entry hallway of each room and there is no way to disable this feature. It made nighttime bathroom visits disruptive for those sleeping. Would be nice to eliminate this feature. Additionally there is nowhere to hang your wet towel in the bathroom- a hook or two would be very helpful. Overall would recommend booking here- great...
