Having breakfast at Riri was by far our highlight of visiting Takayama! The place is small and cosy and the owners, an elderly couple, made us feel so very welcome. They made us a delicious breakfast consisting of miso soup, pancakes and a ham, veggie and egg sandwich. Halfway through our breakfast they also came with a surprise gift: Japanese green tea with a tiny bowl of little fruit pieces 💜 everything was home made and soooo delicious!

After leaving the parking lot next to the place, we were surprised to see that they came outside standing in the rain to wave us goodbye and to make sure we were driving in the right direction tot Kanazawa. How sweet!!

Thank you so much! We will tell all our friends visiting Japan to come...

Rinrin @ Takayama – A cozy, authentic Japanese café run by the sweetest old couple who are incredibly warm and friendly. I tried the French toast, cheese toast, club sandwiches, and even a bowl of ramen—and every single dish was spot on. The bread is soft, fluffy, and packed with flavor, easily the best toast in town. A hidden gem where everything is made with care—absolutely perfect!

We visited in May, so I apologize for the very delayed review.

This cafe was wonderful! The food was delicious and the owners were so friendly and made us feel welcome. I got the French toast, and it was very tasty. We all got iced coffee that came with a simple syrup, also very delicious.

We loved the atmosphere. The room had several interesting vintage appliances, like a vintage phone contraption, and a vintage yakult refrigerator. The people working (owners?) were excited when we asked about them, and let us take photos when we asked.

They also shared some photos and postcards they've received from guests, and they were very fun to...

The breakfast was so good! The owners are very kind and hard working and were happy to see a couple tourists in their cafe. They showed us a picture book of the town during different seasons and festivals while we waited. We ordered cafe au lait with the sandwiches and an order of French toast. Everything was so so good and fresh, even taken to go for our early bus. They are open at 6:30 am, which is very convenient when you have an early bus or train. The French toast was very thick and just the right amount of sweet. Would highly recommend!!
