First I want to say that the place is very close to the station and perfect for a one night stop before moving elsewhere. The owner is indeed very kind and the rate is cheap and this is why we chose it.|We thought it would be of the same standard of the other hostels and guest houses in Japan but it's not. It's definitely below. |It's quite clean, that must be said (not the kitchen though, that was a bit dirty in my opinion) but the whole place looks shabby. The shower is kind of clean, toilet too but everything looked as if they were made in a random way with random pieces. There was no air conditioning and in summer that's a problem, futons were old and uncomfortable (but clean and not smelly, just not comfortable).|There was a cat, too. A scrawny strange cat. Just to add to the Shabby look of the place.|Anyway, I could have given 3 stars because for the price the place is ok and good for one night (not longer) and all of the above, but when I saw the open Cat litter in a corner of the kitchen when there was plenty of other (more appropriate) places to put it, the 3rd star really crumbled to...

Read moreI arrived late in the night and the host greeted me on the empty streets knowing I may have difficulty finding the hostel. He was very patient with my late check in and gave me some information on Kumano Kudo. I stayed here for a couple of hours before a few friendly backpackers and I got up before sunrise for the first bus ride up the mountain. The host is usually not here unless someone is checking in so make sure you provide ETA when making reservations! I was able to leave my luggage here for an additional night even though I had checked out already. Security is very loose here, doors are left unlocked. You should carry your valuables even though Wakayama felt like the safest place on Earth. All guests are here for the hike so expect to be woken up very early in the morning! There is a good ramen place right outside the JR station (opens late) and the cutest little kitties roam the streets at night.||||There are 3 rooms. 1 downstairs to be shared by a small group. 2 upstairs for each gender. each will fit about 3 people and you will be sleeping side by side on the floor with other...
