Pros: stayed one night at the single room and two nights at a double room as I was traveling in between stay and wanted to keep my suitcases there. Single bed was much more comfy than the double bed. ||||The single room was located on 11/F and when I checked in a second time for the double room, they gave me the 5th floor. I asked them if there's a higher floor room available, they gave me a free upgrade to the 13/F. ||||Took me a while to find it the first time, but after that, it's just an easy walk to/from the station.||||Good selection of free amenities to use including hair band and sponge, which not all hotels provide.||||Cons: didn't know Ikebukuro is a red light district before my stay. There were plenty of love hotels around and I saw many young girls standing on the street at nights. Wouldn't stay if I had known.||||Single bed was more comfortable than the double bed. The double bed was bouncy and the pillows were not comfortable at all. And there was stains on the doona in the double room. ||||Air con was cold but it was noisy all night long. ||||Also, on the first night, there was no teabag or coffee in the drawer and no water either. Second check in, got team coffee and two bottle of water on the second day. Kind of random.||||There is also only ONE washing machine and ONE dryer on the ground floor. You might have to wait long at night to get your washing done. After washing my clothes, I found black marks all over my white clothes. Felt dirtier than before wash. Won't recommend using it.||||Room was small as most people have described. I managed to have my suitcase open in the upgraded double room. Not a chance in the single room. Definitely not for big suitcase traveling.||||Also, be mindful when you use the bathroom, as the curtain doesn't block the water completely so you might end up with a wet floor. ||||Not sure if...
Read moreI’m a huge fan of APA Hotels but this one has fallen short of my expectations.
I had just come back from the Philippines and had carried my heavy luggage up and down many flights of stairs, so I was really looking forward to my APA hotel bath infused with those bath salts you can buy at a convenience store.
The water in my room would never go past warm no matter how you adjusted the settings.
Had a scuffs and weird spills on the wall. This is a first for me, I’ve been to many APA hotels but never seen one this dirty.
So my options were to either call the front and request a room change or just go to sleep.
I had only 4 hours of sleep for the past two days so I wasn’t going to change rooms, I went to sleep.
The bed was very sponge-y and didn’t cater to any sleep position. My body would bow outward in any sleep position so I’m curious how APA hotel decided this was a good mattress to buy hundreds (if not thousands) of.
APA hotels is always advertising their Ashirwad Indian food restaurant that’s attached to many of their hotels, so I decided to give them a try.
The restaurant fell a bit short of expectations and is definitely overpriced at 1400 yen for a breakfast, I’d say it’s worth 900-1000 yen.
The Indian (er non Japanese guy) waiter at the front of the restaurant seemed to be more concerned about talking with his friend and I definitely felt like an afterthought as a customer.
He talked while multiple seats remained dirty, this was at 936am on 10/6/19.
I did notify the staff of the problems and they did apologize, service was not bad.
Overall, even though this hotel is in a good location, I’ll be avoiding this particular APA hotel...
Read moreMy husband and I have stayed at many APA Hotels and this one was really not good. I don’t usually leave negative reviews but this stay was disappointing. The mattress was like a water bed, it had no support at all and I barely slept. The room was also not properly cleaned either during our stay or before. We arrived to find hairs all over the bed and it wasn’t pleasant. There was dust and mould everywhere and the carpet felt kind of dirty and sticky underfoot. I think the rooms could really do with some renovation and deep cleaning. The location is a short walk to Ikebukuro station and the Yamanote Line ticket gates which is super convenient, but you have to walk through Ikebukuro’s red light district to get there. This of course isn’t really the fault of the hotel and I didn’t mind it myself, but I don’t recommend the location for solo female travellers concerned about walking alone at night or male travellers who don’t want to be bothered by touts. On the plus side, the staff were lovely. I had a very nice conversation with a very sweet housekeeper and the lady who checked us in at the front desk was very kind, patient and polite. There are lots of convenience stores nearby and many good restaurants within walking distance so it’s pretty easy to find breakfast,...
