Before arriving at this hotel, I’ve read mixed reviews about the condition of the rooms, the staff’s service and the locale of the hotel and was quite worried I may have chosen the wrong hotel to book for my first night in Japan. I even panicked when I read that the type of room I booked was not on a lift-accessible level and I will likely have to carry my luggage up one flight of stairs! My anxiety was for naught after all. Since the hotel was remodeled into Hotel MYSTAYS from the previous Flexstay Inn, everything has improved greatly. The front desk is professional, efficient and polite, handling my check-in process within minutes. Every floor is lift-accessible, and the lift carriage can accommodate up to 3-4 pax with 3 large suitcases. My room is 20sqm, but adequate for a family of 3 adults. The room is clean, hygienic and comfortable with fresh linens (from the looks of it, haha). WIFI is provided, of course, and it is smooth. The bathroom is a bit compact though, and for someone who is tall, it can be a bit inconvenient to shower or manoeuvre around. I am 6ft tall, and when I stepped into the bathtub shower, I can graze the ceiling vent if I tiptoe. But this slight inconvenience is “compensated” by the complete set of toiletries provided, and honestly, this is the first low-cost hotel I’ve stayed in which will provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and even face and hand soap, complete with individually packaged toothbrush sets etc. What a pleasant surprise! As the hotel is situated in what I believe to be an office district, it can be a bit quiet in the evening. There is a supermarket opposite the hotel, but the nearest convenience store still required a bit of walking. The nearest street of restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and FamilyMart or Lawson stores are at least 450m from this hotel, so we had to walk out for dinner.
Overall, my family and I loved and appreciated the experience, especially since this is our first time in Japan. A great start...
Read moreBooked because 20 m2 room and amenities, located in a cool area (Idabashi). What a mistake. Well i guess it depends on your standards and expectations. But considering the price was the same as i would have paid for a super clean/ modern business hotel (although smaller room), this is unacceptable because: furniture is super old (looks 50 yrs old) and damaged; room has dust on some furniture and under/ behind microwave and along wall under bed; stains on walls; microwave dirty inside; bathroom old, looks like cheap hotel in Philippines. I would feel more comfortable in cheap hostel in Japan. Called hotel chain help line. Mr Gan answered as we asked for english. We asked to be relocated in another truly modern hotel of Mystays chain. He found a room no so far. We agreed. He then Helped to arrange cancellation and reimbursement with front desk employee as it was evening and front desk closes at 6pm… as this was finished we realized he had not secured the proposed room, so it was already taken by a new customer (busy time in tokyo)! He just wanted us to do the booking ourselves. Not helpful. I asked him to again help us find a room and do the booking for us. He proposed either a more expensive room, or a combination of smaller room then change as not available for the duration of our stay. I asked if he could give us a discount to compensate for the terrible experience, to which he answered we could book with another chain of our choice. By far this is the worst experience for hotels & customer service i have had in over 20 trips to Japan… unacceptable for a chain...
Read moreStayed here for four nights with a friend. Had a twin room with a little balcony. It's about a 10 minute walk from Iidabashi JR train station but easy to find if you know where you're going. It's basic but clean and a bit roomier than most Japanese hotel rooms.||Vending machines in the lobby have snack foods, soft drinks, juice and alcohol. You're supposed to have to use your key or a code to get into the lobby outside of their check in/out hours but we would get back there at 11pm and you could still walk right in.||It's in a little residential/business area so it's dead quiet. If you go for a wander you'll find convenience stores and supermarkets around. Near the train station are some noodle bars. But to eat I'd find places in the city and come home later. ||The train station people are super helpful and told us how to get somewhere when we weren't sure which train to get even given the language barrier. ||There's some really nice local parks to walk around within about a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. Also they have heaps of washing machines and dryers so you can get all your washing done.||Great little base for...
