Stayed for 3 nights and felt it was perfect for a lone-female traveller. Location is 2 mins from Shin-Okubo station which has great links to the rest of Tokyo. You have to walk down a side street from the main road but I felt totally safe and comfortable - itโs well lit and thereโs always people around so itโs nothing bad or dodgy. Bed was comfy, room is small but works for a lone-traveler (I was in 301) - i had space to store my luggage closed and would just open up as and when I needed to change etc. usb plug by the bed and another plug on the desk. Ac unit - I didnโt need to use it but was good it was there if needed. Bathroom is compact but clean and functional. They provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand soap. Shower pressure is powerful and lots of towels provided plus a robe and slippers. There is also a mini fridge in the room. They also provide free water (hot/cold), tea and other small amenities. Check in and out was simple, staff are really lovely. I couldnโt transfer my luggage to next location from the hotel but i just did it from the nearby 7/11. Noise wise - you can hear the station but the trains stop after midnight but start up again around 5:30 - this wasnโt an issue for me as Iโm used to noise but if youโre sensitive they do have ear plugs - but personally it wasnโt bad and I slept well. There is no lift but they staff carried my luggage up to my room when I arrived and fortunately it wasnโt that heavy for me to carry back down. Would...
ย ย ย Read moreIt was my first time in Japan for business/leisure, so I looked for a typical Japanese hotel, and I wasn't disappointed. The main strength of Matsunoi is its location, you are a walking distance away from Shinjuku, with two train stations about 5 minutes away. The hotel itself is excellent for the price, sure the rooms are small and not everybody is into futons but it was exactly what I was looking for. For the price I'm not sure you can get something equivalent in Tokyo. No wonder the place is always booked. Matsunoi will always have a very unique place in my heart as I discovered japanese toilets and a new kind of...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat place to sleep when visiting the area. Nice surrounding neighborhood. Close to the busy areas of Shinjuku and Kabukicho but far enough to be relatively quiet. Very close to a JR East station. Lots of Korean restaurants nearby. The rooms were clean, air conditioning was cold, and service was friendly. Don't expect to fit more than one full-sized suitcase though. Some noise at night from the people and vehicles moving through, but nothing that...
