Nick and Yuko were the perfect hosts. Nick met me at the Train Station and took me to the accommodation and even then offered to take me around the local area to see what there was to do. The accommodation was very secure clean and a good size room with a great bathroom and shower and comfortable bed. The room had a fridge, amazing air conditioning and a microwave that came in handy. The accommodation also had a roof top with chairs that was great to sit and relax in when the sun came out. The location was great on the main JR Yamanote line this is the most convenient way around the main attractions in Tokyo with the local Otsuka station being a 6 minute walk. The surrounding areas of Otsuka were also very good with lots of restaurants Starbucks etc or a 15 minute walk to Ikebukuro which massive full of shopping centres cinema and bars/restaurants ask Nick to show you the chicken and big beer restaurant it was amazing. Overall this represents value for money with...
Read moreKainoa Guest House has become my favourite place to stay in Tokyo. It’s the cleanest and most comfortable place I have ever stayed in. Everything is new, modern and immaculate. As the place is small with only a few rooms it also does not feel like a hotel but more private. I also love the rain shower and that the TV has Netflix.;) The area is super quiet, though it is not far at all from Sunshine City and all the other fun places in Ikebukuro. As in Ikebukuro you can find lots of shops, restaurants and entertainment it is in my opinion the best area to stay. Plus it is not far to get to Yamanote line (Ōtsuka station is quite close to Kainoa Guest House but you can also walk to Ikebukuro Station where you also have access to several other lines.). I have stayed at Kainoa Guest House three times so far and it always felt like home. Thank you, Yuko and Nick, for offering this wonderful place right in the heart of Ikebukuro...
Read moreAn incredibly well thought out place. The layout, fixtures and fittings make full use of limited space without feeling cramped, and everything from amenities to switches are exactly what you need in the right places. Even the bed and pillow are comfy. One of the few in Ikebukuro with an elevator and located in a quiet area with a laundromat, 7-11 and café round the corner. There's even bottled water and snacks for purchase from a cute Pikachu box in the lobby, as well as umbrellas you can borrow. A short and straightforward walk to Sunshine City, a slightly longer one to Ikebukuro station, meaning it's fairly close to just about anything you'd want to be in Ikebukuro for. Might be a bit of a trek with luggage, but otherwise a delightful place to stay, even for long trips. They even clean your room every few days. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends...
