We had a great 2 nights stay at this Ryokan. Location was near Yufuin Floral Village, and around 20 mins walk from Yufuin JR station. It was a nice walk to Yufuin JR station as there were many shops and eateries that you can visit along the way. Alternatively, there is also bus 36 from Yufuin but terminal that would stop near to the ryokan. The staff were really outstanding, friendly and helpful. When we arrived, a couple of them rushed to help us with our luggage and to also shelter us from the rain. During the entire stay, they made us feel very welcomed. The Western/Japanese room that we booked was very spacious and had all the amenities we required. Note that this is a 2 storey living area - level 1 had a bathroom with private indoor and outdoor onsen as well as the living room, while level 2 had a toilet (w/o bath) and 1 western bedroom as well as 1 Japanese bedroom. There are 4 public onsen in the ryokan. 2 for female and 2 for male. They would rotate it during the day and night to allow everyone to try out the different onsen. We also had our breakfast and dinner at the ryokan as part of the package. The dishes were different on both days. The spread was huge and food tasted great. Note that there are very few places open at Yufuin during...
Read moreTruly one of the best experiences in a hotel for me and my family. It's our third visit to Japan but first to Yufuin, a tiny albeit lovely mountainside town located 8 hours from Tokyo via JR Rail.
Nanakawa is a traditional Ryokan and the staff treats you like you are their only guests. Our room came with two private hot springs baths, one indoor and one outdoor. The price of the room may look steep but it comes with the huge two level room and baths and two meals. Both meals are traditional Japanese meals but the star is the kaiseki dinner, which is served at the adjoining restaurant. It's a nine-course meal that is truly an amazing experience. Our server, Ayumi, was superb and she exemplified what great customer service truly means.
The hotel is located about 200 meters from the main strip where you can buy some of the yummiest cheesecakes, ice cream, and meat cutlets.
It is also not far from the Yufuin JR Rail station (about 1 km) and is easily accessible by taxi (700 yen) or on foot. The hotel also provided us with a shuttle for free.
We are looking forward to...

2023 Review
Stayed two nights in the private onsen suite that was two floors. First time we had a two floor suite, very spacious and open.
The water was amazing, skin felt smoother immediately after the first night.
The hotel is also connected to two other ryokans and you will have access to their public baths as well which is really nice since they are almost always empty.
The food was great, two different nights of kaiseki with Oita waygu, shabu shabu and yakuniku. The portions are quite big, for a women, I had to give some of the wagyu to my husband...
Highly recommend as it is literally at the steps of the lake and there is no one...
