the receptionist provided extremely bad service. today i went to the restaurant by 2ish. In fact, there are a table for 6 available and there were some people waiitng for the bills. Only 2 of us were waiting for the table. it was cold and raining and the receptionist asked us to wait outside. Then, after 5 min, some people finished their lunch and left. so we got a table. She guided me to a table for 4 but she asked me to have lunch for 1 hour only(this is not fast food please and i was not paying the price for fast food too). I had no clue why she had to set up such rule for me becasue i could see there were many tables available. anyway... when i ordered food, she took my orders in very impolite tone. When we were having our lunch, she guided other customers sitting at the table next to us but I couldnt see that she told them to finish the lunch in 1 hour. At the end, the table for 6 was still available and no one took it during my lunch. frankly speaking, food is not as good as what the comments mentioned about. you can try if you are in yufurin but please dont expect too much. I believe too many tourists visiting there and so they lower their food quality...

What an inconsistent place. It must be, due to some reviews saying it is great.

There's an instruction on how to eat it. In it, they also mentioned adding soup into the charred bits.

What charred bits? The rice was a soggy mess. It was either taken out too quickly or they added too much water.

As I was going to pay, I took a peek at some other table's claypots. One had the charred parts, the other was like mine. I am accustomed to claypot rice in my country and soggy rice would get you struck out immediately.

I ordered the bungo beef and the unagi one. The unagi was so rubbery but the flavour is actually good. What a pity. It must have been overgrilled or something. This is the first time ever I had eaten rubbery eel.

The bungo beef was good but its sauce was so mild that the rest of the soggy rice had not much flavour. I tried adding more beef sauce but it didn't help. I decided to just use the unagi sauce instead.

I actually like the Service a lot. The Lady server saw that my Baby was fussing and lent us a fan which kept her cool and brought down her fussing.

Sorry, but to be inconsistent is unforgivable. I wouldn't visit again unless there are...

TOTALLY RUINED MY LOVE FOR JAPAN.

Japan is supposed to be known for its top-tier manners and hospitality, but this restaurant was the complete opposite — it shattered that image in the worst way.

Disaster of a Queue System – Absolutely no proper queue management. The staff gave zero instructions and acted like they couldn’t care less. On top of that, they were straight-up rude.

Dirty and Disorganized Tables – When we entered, the tables weren’t even cleaned or properly set up for 3 or 4 people. The staff? Completely ignorant and unbothered.

Horrible Service – When the food came, the staff didn’t even bother asking who ordered what. They just dumped it on the table and walked off. I had to move a scorching hot pot myself — super dangerous and unacceptable.

Food Was an Overhyped Joke – Fooled by the hype on Xiao Hong Shu. Everything was overpriced and underwhelming. The beef was like chewing rubber, the unagi was dry and overcooked, and only the chicken was barely decent.

This place was a total letdown and an embarrassment to what Japan is...

Beef 5/5 Eel 1/5 Chicken 2/5 The beef was soft and the sauce went really well together. Delicious with and without soup. The eel was the biggest let down. There was a lot of sauce but very little to no flavour. The worst texture and flavour of eel we’ve ever tasted. Chicken was nothing special despite a few positive reviews. Was kinda dry and smoky. However the ochazuke soup really helped bring the moisture back so I gave 2/5. Yuzukoshou was good with the chicken. There was nothing scorched about the rice. I think because the turnover is too fast and they cook it to serve, there’s no time for the rice to scorch. If this is the case, they shouldn’t promote it because it’s not there. Just leave it out of their promo materials. The rice was mostly wet and soggy especially on the bottom Loved the ochazuke soup. Miso was red miso with pieces of shiitake. The appetizers were pretty good. Overall would not line up for more than 30mins for this and only for the beef. Parking next to it is 400yen for the entire day which is the best deal as far as we saw in the vicinity.

One of the famous cuisines here is the Kamameshi (釜飯) and no one does it better than restaurant 由布まぶし心. You could smell the smoke from charcoal fire that was raging inside the kitchen to prepare for those delicious Kamameshi dish that is traditionally cooked in an iron or clay pot consist of rice seasoned with condiments like soy sauce or mirin, and cooked with meats with 3 selections to choose from: Chicken, Eel or their specialty – Oita wagyu beef. You could enjoy the Kamameshi dish in 3 ways, first eat it as is to enjoy the original flavor, second to consume it with the varieties of seasoning and sauces provided by the restaurant to enhance the flavor to your liking. Lastly place the soup into the remaining rice to enjoy a bowl of soup rice, 湯漬け(ゆづけ). A very hearty and enjoyable meal that also allowed me to learn more about the Japanese culture, money well spent!
