This is a warm and comfortable hotel. I stayed with my family in the two guest rooms of Anzu and Ajisai at Yufuin Bettei ITSUKI. We chose the package with dinner and breakfast. You can park your car at the hotel first and then go out to play. It takes only 7 minutes to walk to Kinrin Lake. There is also a MaxValue supermarket near the hotel, which is super convenient. After half a day of sightseeing in cold weather, the hotel lobby welcomes their guests with the warmth of firewood. This is one of the things I like about this hotel. The staff are very polite and the service is superb. They call before dinner reservation time to let you know dinner is ready. Dinner is arranged in a private room in the restaurant which allows sufficient privacy. Local seasonal ingredients are used in every dish, tasted fresh and delicious and served on fine pottery. Such an absolute feast for the tongue and eyes!I would like to appreciate the mindfulness of the hotel. When making hotel reservation, I told the hotel that we have a member who does not eat raw food. At that time, the hotel replied that the sashimi in the meal could be served cooked. When we check-in, hotel staff took special attention with that. The room is spacious and tidy with air purifiers and humidifiers. One of the rooms we stayed in had an indoor and an outdoor onsen and the other had a semi-outdoor hot spring. Flowers and plants are planted in the garden of the room and around the outdoor hot spring. You can feel the natural atmosphere of Yufuin when you look out from indoors or in onsen. There is another point worthy of praise. When I was seated for dinner, I asked the staff at the front desk if I could buy stamps for sending postcard. They did not have stamps for sale. To my surprise, as soon as the first course of dinner was served, hotel staff handed me a beautiful envelope with a stamp inside. They even checked the postage fee to make sure the stamp fee is enough. How efficient and thoughtful they are. This is the best onsen hotel and I would recommend it to everyone. Family raves about the stay. Overall it's impeccable. If I have the opportunity to come to Yufuin again in the future, I will definitely choose this...
Read moreI stayed at Itsuki Yufuin was for one night in October 2022. With many repeat visits to Japan over the years excellent hospitality is a given. However, my experience at this ryokan was so outstanding that I'm compelled to leave a glowing, though belated review. |I had originally booked another ryokan in Yufuin. The other ryokan, noticing that I was a solo traveler, reached out to cancel my reservation. I was lucky that Itsuki still had availability for my dates and accepted a solo booking.|On arrival, I was greeted and shown to my room which was unexpectedly the size of an entire house. The rooms were very comfortable, and I immediately regretted that I only spending one night. There was an indoor and outdoor onsen, both impeccably clean. The bathroom was supplied with plenty of towels and amenities. I could see the top of Mt. Yufu from the outdoor bath. |Dinner was delicious and beautifully presented, served in a private room in the main building. A friendly and enthusiastic staff member, named Van, explained the dishes in detail. |My cottage consisted of a very comfortable western bed, with a separate room for futons. The area was very quiet at night and I had a restful sleep.|Breakfast was served, with help from Van, again privately in the main building. The breakfast consisted of wholesome, local ingredients, filling and energizing but not too heavy. |Upon check out, I requested a taxi to take me to the train station. When the driver arrived, I vaguely heard the staff speaking to him but didn't pay much attention. At Yufuin station, the driver declined my payment and indicated that Itsuki had covered my taxi fare! I was so pleasantly surprised. My stay by itself had already been impressive, and this wonderful gesture made it unforgettable.|The staff and accommodations at Itsuki have left such a positive and lasting memory. I am looking forward to returning to charming Yufuin, using it as a break mid-trip to simply relax. I would definitely choose to stay again at Itsuki for its warm courtesy and peaceful...
Read moreStayed in 山法師, it was a HUGE villa! We were lost inside a couple times because of how big it is and how many doors there are.
Our private onsen (both indoor and outdoor) were amazing and the temperature was just about right. We spent most of our time there.
Food was absolutely a delight to our palate, and it's very unique. We especially loved the bongo beef course. At breakfast we were in a private room with great view of Mt Yufu as well!
The only complaint is we felt that the service was slow/lacking. Here are some examples:
check in took 45 minutes, we were just sitting at the lobby. No tea or snack was provided. Our passports were taken then most of the time no one was at the front desk so we couldn't check on status. Occasionally someone would come ask us a couple questions on meal times and fill in some forms. Felt that it was time wasted
we had to ask to had kid size yukata, slippers, and other amenities to be sent to us
there was no body lotion in our room and when we asked for it, we were told we were not supposed to use lotion because the onsen water would moisturize our skin. Well, not with the many showers we take before and after onsen with the body soap provided. Our skin felt extremely dry. It was late and there wasn't any shops nearby. They ended up giving us a small bottle but it felt like a hassle and we...
