Very good location, can walk from Echigo-Yuzawa station to hotel in about 10 minutes. They povide free shuttle service ( in front of hotel but by Gala mountain service/not hotel service) to Gala Snow Mountain which takes about 10 minutes at a published schedule. We took the shuttle going there but walked back as it was a sunny afternoon and took us about 25 minutes. It's a nice walk with local scenery. -Very friendly service and could communicate in English! Thanks to Ms.Cheng at the reception and the bell boy who checked us in but we forget his name! Both speak very good English! Also during dinner and at check-out communication was fine! At check-in they also confirm your dinner time reservation as you need to pre-book. Breakfast is served between 7-9 am with buffetvstyle and frees eating. - The view from our room was nice with mountain view and we had a lucky pick as our room had a huge terrace with even a little snow on it...perfect for photo taking. - Dinner set-menu was ok served in a private room with great service. Breakfast buffet was ok with the essential western food items like fried eggs, bacon, toast etc.. - the room itself was clean in the living sleeping area and so was the shower area and outdoor hot tub...with views of the mountain...very nice! - The public onsen facilities are also very nice. They provide 2 baths on the 6th and 2 on the 7th floor each rotating between male/female hours based on schedule which is giving to you, and explained by the bell boy in your room upon check-in. For me the 6th floor was the best with outdoor onsen under trees with snow...it felt so good...wow! The bell boy also explains the dinner facilities, the Kimono attire, the bath towel set for the onsen and asked you if you have any allergies...well done!||||- Generally the hotel is a little old with its furniture, decorations and fittings. - The toilette cubicle in the room was a little smelly and the WC itself was very old - The private room for dinner was ok for its privacy but we felt like sitting ina box as no windows. - The dinner is well presented but if you have a real big appetite and cannot eat much local cuisine you may better get some snacks from the hotel shop (limited) or the Sven eleven nearby. - Value for money is from our opinion not so good as in most Royken Hotels in Japan. We paid for 22sqm Japanese style room 550.-$/one night. Ok, it includes breakfast and dinner but for whatbthe dinner was and the size of the room it is...

Read moreI don't give out 5 stars easily but Hotel Futaba deserves them!||||My family of 7 came for a ski holiday and the location is excellent. It is only a 3 minutes drive from Yuzawa Kogen, a small ski resort that is perfect for beginners. ||||After arriving from Tokyo, we went to the tourist information counter to ask them to call the hotel for us. They arrived shortly and loaded all 7 of us and ALL our HEAVY bags onto the bus. bus ride was less than 5 mins. (one reason why our bags were heavy was because we loaded up on sakes at the train station, which was unnecessary because the hotel gift shop sold sakes at similar prices.) ||||Check in took a while because we needed to shorten the stay for my father's room (emergency situation at home). But to their credit, they gave us a refund for the 2 nights even though everything was already pre-paid, yay!!!||||staff service was excellent - truly 5 stars. on her own initiative, one staff offered to cut the pears that we bought. On another day, she cut the water melon we bought from the supermarket. On the final day, just as my train was pulling in, I realized that I had left my phones in the hotel! after calling the hotel, they sent my phones to the train station for me! oh... I also dropped some money at the front desk which they returned to me!||||because my mother doesn't ski, she went to Niigata (city) for a day tour. When she arrived back at Echigo Yuzawa station, I called the front desk and they sent the bus to pick her up! just for her! I was impressed.||||very honest and hardworking staff. RItz Carlton customer service level, I would rate it.||||Hotel hardware is a little old but everything worked perfectly. The private onsen was perfect after a full day of skiing. The darn thing was that the next room smoked very often which affected my onsen experience. ||||The nightly keiseki dinners were beautifully presented. unfortunately, taste-wise, the food didn't impress me. the meals were nice but there is room for improvement. Service is where the Hotel Futaba truly impressed. The children didn't like the children's meal provided and when we requested for the Japanese steam egg custard, the kitchen cooked one up immediately. ||||Hotel Futaba cost aprox USD230 per person per night half board, which I felt was pricey. But taking into account the excellent service quality, the price was reasonable.||||Would I return? YES! but I would need to start making...
