😊: Sansan Yuzawa Backpackers – This is my second time staying here. On this visit, I noticed that many things remained the same, while some have changed, especially the staff, who are now almost entirely Chinese. This means communication is primarily in English. Fortunately, this isn’t an issue for me, but for Japanese guests, it might cause some initial concern. However, any worries would likely disappear after a conversation, as all the staff (including the cat) are incredibly friendly, cheerful, and always ready to help. I hope this aspect remains unchanged, as it’s a key charm that makes guests want to return.. 😢: What I’d like to see improved further is the cleanliness of the futon (mattress) and blankets. I completely understand that guests staying here have different standards when it comes to cleanliness, which makes maintaining hygiene a crucial aspect. I would suggest that Sansan Yuzawa Backpackers consider taking further measures regarding this issue, including addressing some unidentified stains on the pillows. While I know that pillowcases (or protective covers) are provided, that alone may not be the best solution.
Please don’t wait until a customer points this out in a way that isn’t constructive criticism. I don’t want the staff to feel discouraged, but it’s important to address this before it becomes a...
Read moreAs there wasn’t much accommodation available in Tokamachi, we booked a room at Sansan-Cafe and Bar & Backpackers near Echigo-Yuzawa Station. For a simple guesthouse, the private room was a bit pricey. One floor had four small private room and another had two dormitory rooms. Fortunately we were the only guests staying so using the limited number of showers and toilets wasn’t an issue but this probably would be if most of the beds and rooms are full here. The room was quite stuffy even with the air conditioning running. The room reeked of stale tatami smell which would linger on all of our clothes even after leaving. All the space in the house is very tight including the small common area. This guesthouse would be adequate only for travelers who are used to staying...
Read moreThe stay was great! Very knowledgable staff, great breakfast, comfortable beds, good rooms, heaters work well, and breakfasts are delicious! There are shuttles that will take you to all ski resorts, just ask the staff! They speak good english, and I would recommend this place to anyone. Be warned, the menu prices did not match what we paid for food and beer there (50 Yen extra). Ask what additional charges they might have before buying...
