well in beginning, please please please, remember do not take private taxi in Almaty airport, i made very big mistake not asking private taxi driver how much it will be to get from Airport to Grand Hotel Eurasia, he told me that he had "meter" in the car so asked me not to worry....and it was 18 300 KZT, means about 52 USD!!! in reality total trip costs about 10 USD, i learned later long dispute with this semi-criminal taxi driver was not productive at all. Now about hotel...i do not know why they call "GRAND", i wonder if management knows what "Grand" means? standard room is small with old fashion Chinese furniture, air con in hotel was not working or they do not have at all, it was very hot!!! and they provide small but very loud mobile air con, due its noise it was not possible to sleep till mid night. When i arrived staff at reception was very friendly ( name started with A i think, Amir or Arman, cannot remember) but later some other staff was there and he was busy watching something on computer, so he did not bother to answer my questions....only positive side, it was close to my meeting place, so i could walk and there are shopping mall close by...so i am not sure, do i have to be thankful for hotel or to these near by facilities ? i will never stay in this place, next time for sure will choose something else, its just...
Read moreThey gave us a room that they knew that they are still drying the carpet, when we went it inside it smells really bad, requested to change room, they gave us a room with a broken shower and no cold water. We coordinated to the reception, asked him if we can upgrade and to check the room first before paying, there was no difference at all, only the space and an additional single bed. We were open to pay the upgrade but reception told us he cant give us the room since we booked for the CHEAPER one. so if we booked for a cheaper one, does it mean they can give us a room with a broken shower and no cold water? Oh, and the toilet bowl has stains, they done know how to remove it? Anyways, the issue were fixed (shower and water) when we came back to the hotel but the way it was handled, was not acceptable. The location is great but they should maintain their facilities and the hotel itself and improve their...
Read moreI traveled to Almaty for my first visit to see|Old friends. The hotel lobby looked so lavish on all the travel booking websites. |I was moved from one room to another as the rooms with an afternoon exposure were uncomfortable and hot. Air conditioning was not working as they were remodeling the hotel. I later was given a huge suite facing east. The hose in back of the air conditioner unit was supposed to exhaust the warm air from the room. If one were to believe that I know of a bridge in Arizona that I hear is for sale. |The point being one star because the hotel has four walls and a buffet breakfast on the top floor. Passable. Rooms strike three. |I will say the little businesses attached to this hotel have a nice home cooked meals which I used each day while I was in town. |I’d avoid this establishment. It’s a crying shame because right across the street is the Dorstyk Mall. Hint hint if you...
