This is one of the better hotels I have stayed in for a long time. A modern, clean, comfortable, well designed room (Studio room) and high tech, with a small kitchen (utensils, cups, plates, etc. provided), plus fridge and a microwave. The room has good air conditioning, a modern shower, a coffee maker with coffee capsules and a kettle with a selection of teas; the TV is big.
The location is excellent, with many restaurants and cafés just a walk away and a short walk to the Arbat area. For the more adventurous, pay a visit to Oi-Qaragai Mountain Resort. Breakfast was good (continental style), but if you want a full English breakfast or more, use one of the outside cafés / restaurants close by.
Drinking water is available in each hallway on every floor (not in the room), and a carafe is provided to fill with the drinking water. I did ask the cleaner for a second carafe, which was delivered straight away, for me portrayed the hotel service, i.e. reception, cleaners, etc., which was excellent throughout my stay.
However, there is no iron or ironing board provided in the room, but an ironing room on each floor which annoyed me a little. However, the ironing room is well maintained with a couple of good irons, plus I did not have to use an iron with wires hanging out, i.e. a hazard, quite common in some hotels. You can always bring a good travel iron.
My only issue was operating the high-tech room's wall control panel. An engineer was sent to my room for a demonstration over a few minutes as I could not find any operating instructions.
Looking forward to my next stay...

Read moreNot the kind of experience you expect after paying the price. The moment we checked in, we got to know they had given our room to somebody else. The woman at the front desk was confused and despite repeated requests to assign us the room we booked, they completely denied giving us the room we paid for.
The horror isn’t over. WAIT. Next day, we were out hiking all day, so without informing us, they moved our luggage to another room because the one they gave us previously had a booking! Who does that? How can you move customers luggage without letting them know?
They enter the room for cleaning without knocking!! The staff just uses their key and enters! Imagine, whatever happened to manners and privacy!?
The room they gave us for the remaining three nights was extremely uncomfortable. The bed could no way accommodate 2 individuals. Who keeps a sofa cum bed in a hotel room as a bed? Only Novotel Living Almaty😅
Breakfast was terrible, zero vegetarian options. If you can survive on bread and butter for 4 days, then that’s good. Or you stay hungry or order from outside.
There are way better hotels for the price, please do not waste your time and hard earned money...
