Galawa Beach Apartments — Hotel in Ukunda ward

If I had to summarize my stay(s) in one word, Wonderful! Would be it. I have stayed here twice. The first time was about three years back, with a friend, when it was very new, and the second time was in March (26-29) 2024 with my partner. I enjoyed my stay both times. These are some of my experiences and thoughts.

The Good

The apartment is well situated, clean, spacious and well equipped for a short or long stays. You have private beach access, it sits on top of one of the best restaurants, in my opinion, in Diani – Kokkos and it is 2 minutes' walk away from a well-stocked supermarket across the road. On my second stay it wasn’t as new and pristine as it was during my first stay but, it was just as clean and inviting. It could use a wee bit of a refresh. The staff – cleaning and security are first rate. The hosts are lovely too and will attend to any needs posthaste – we ran out of cooking gas, and it was replaced with no fuss. They are quick in their communication and very accomodating.

The Bad

There is only one AC unit in the bedroom. The open living space – kitchen and living room make do with ceiling and pedestal fans. I can cope with the heat but guests from moderate to cool climes will find themselves spending most of their time in the bedroom. This is a pity because the living room is beautiful and is spacious with a lovely big screen tv. The second issue is that the Wi-Fi can be spotty or slow. It is absolutely suitable for your basic emails and browsing but it may struggle with Teams, Zoom or Google Meets or any work that needs good quality bandwidth. It’s a no go for Netflix, Disney or Apple tv subscribers. I guess it’s good for getting vacationers to talk to each other instead of staring at screens but, on the flip side, it is nice to be able to catch up on a show or a live game.

We loved our stay here. The apartments are very clean, big, but cosy with very nice furniture. We stayed here for about three days. The beach is only a few minutes walk away. Checking in and out...
