Its really just another joint on the strip. Better you go to The Manyatta. The Manyatta is more honest. It provides the same indifferent service and lack of concern for their customers as Funky Monkey but at least does not try to pretend it is something it is not. Funky Monkey clearly tries to be different from the other joints. I think the decor, name and interesting menu at Funky Monkey reflects a real commitment to a quality and unique experience by the owners. Also, the kitchen is excellent ! ...preparing fun, different dishes that are quality and well priced. It is the front end - from hostess, servers and manager - that lets the side down. They give you the typical, vacuous, insincere platitudes and Jambo's! that you hear from beach boys to curio sellers. Its this quality of service that drags Funky Monkey down the level of any other joint on the strip. No effort to provide a professional customer service but in its place lots of attitude, slow, nonchalant, sulky service. No different than The Manyatta, but at least The Manyatta doesn't pretend to be something its not. I feel sorry for the owner. Its hard to run a serious business...

I’ve been to Funky Monkey twice now with my girlfriend, and both times have been nothing short of fantastic. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a vibrant and energetic atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a great night out.

I rarely write reviews. But I am a bit of a cocktail nerd. Just spent 2 months in Diani and Funky Monkey cocktails are the 'best' in Diani, and probably on the east coast of Kenya, IMHO. Let me define 'best' in this context. The 'bar staff' (let me not get too fancy and into all that Mixologist stuff) are really friendly and helpful, very well trained, seem to love their work, and understand 'customer service'; they produce sophisticated, perfectly balanced drinks, that are highly addictive :-). Give them your favourite base alcohol, Tequila, Rum, Gin, Vodka, whiskey etc and they will have several options for you. Food is consistently very good and the various 'music/dance' nights that are on their calendar on the website are always fun...for those with mobile hips who just can't sit still!
