Gostinitsa "Al'tamira" — Hotel in Karakol City

We spent three nights at the Altamira Inn Karakol while in the city last summer near the end of August. It is a bit out of the “city centre” but still really easy to access everything that you will need to see and do when in the area. The staff are very friendly and were full of good recommendations for places to eat, things to see and things to avoid as well, languages we had no issues communicating with our mixed bag of languages. The hotel is non-smoking which we really appreciated, rooms were quiet and clean, some of the other guests were a bit loud one of the nights but we glared at them and they were quiet haha. Good breakfast included and if your life revolves around checking online statuses and being connected 24/7 then you will be happy to know in your sad little life that the wifi is pretty good here. 카라콜 중심부에서 멀지 않은 곳에 있는 숙소입니다. 글로부스 마트까지 걸어서 10분이 걸리며 마트 근처에 환전소가 있습니다. (제가 예약한 방의 경우) 헤어드라이기와 세면도구가 없어서 룸서비스가 좋다고 평가할 수는 없을 것 같습니다만, 그래도 전체적으로 방이 매우 깨끗했고 조식도 만족스러웠습니다. 개인적으로 이 숙소를 추천하는 중요한 이유는 데스크 직원 분 때문입니다.||저희 일행은 카르가스 국경검문소에서 카라콜까지 히치하이킹으로 이동했습니다. 처음 탈 때 운전자들이 돈을 요구해 2만 텡겐(5만7천원)으로 합의했으나 중간에 차를 멈추더니 돈을 더 달라고 했고 저희는 약속과 다르니 줄 수 없다고 대답했습니다. 하지만 같은 말을 끊임없이 반복해서 결국 저녁 식사를 대접하기로 했으나 식당에서 제 카드가 결제되지 않자 호텔까지 쫓아와 돈을 요구했습니다. 서로 언어도 통하지 않아 어려움을 겪고 있었는데 이때 직원 분이 나서서 문제를 원만하게 해결해주었고 안전하게 하루를 보낼 수 있었습니다.||직원 분은 영어를 매우 유창하게 구사했고 다음날 아침 식당에서 친절하게 서비스를 도와주거나 택시를 대신 잡아주는 등 밝고 친절한 태도를 보여주었습니다. 시간이 조금 지나서 이름이 잘 기억나지 않습니다만, 한국에서 일하고 있는 언니(혹은 동생)이 있다고 들었던 것 같습니다. 리뷰를 통해서 감사 인사를 전하고 적절한 가격에 좋은 숙소를 찾고 있는 여행객들에게 이 숙소를 추천합니다.||This hotel is located not far from the center of Karakol. It takes 10 minutes to walk to Globus Market and a currency exchange. In the case of the room I booked, there were no hair dryers and toiletries, so I cannot say "perfect" to the room service, but everything was clean and the breakfast was also satisfactory. The main reason I personally recommend this hotel is the kindness of one desk staff.||I hitchhiked from the Kargas post to Karakol. When I first got on, the drivers(2 people) asked for money and we agreed to 20,000 tengen. But they suddenly stopped on the way to Karakol, and asked for more money. I suggested to eat dinner together and pay half, but my credit card did not work -and even I paid 1/3 by cash already- they followed me to the hotel for the left fee. I had a huge difficulty because I can't speak russian, but at that moment the staff came forward to solve the problem smoothly, and I could get out of the "terrible" situation.||The staff spoke English very fluently and showed a bright and friendly attitude by helping service at the restaurant or hailing a taxi for me. Il valico di Karkara solo da qualche anno consente il transito tra il Kazakistan (dalla località di Kegen, ubicata ad una ventina di km dal confine) ed il Kirghizistan (dal paese di Tup a una quarantina di km dalla frontiera o proseguendo dalla città di Karakol, distante circa un centinaio di chilometri dal valico). Il valico funziona da maggio sino ad ottobre, usualmente sino al giorno 15 di quest'ultimo mese ed il suo orario di apertura, per le operazioni doganali e d'immigrazione, è esclusivamente dalle 9.00 alle 18.00. Il traffico veicolare in entrambi i sensi di marcia è molto sporadico, anche a causa della scarsissima qualità del fondo stradale (praticamente un tratturo) sia in Kirghizistan, per una quarantina Km che in Kazakistan per circa 30 Km, pertanto chi non dispone di adeguati mezzi di trasporto propri può avere grande difficoltà a raggiungere la prima località, oltre confine, per poter proseguire il viaggio con autoservizi locali. A Kegen esiste da poco un hotel ubicato nella via centrale, sebbene anche i locali non ne conoscono l'esistenza, quindi occorre chiedere ripetutamente e sono rarissime le persone con conoscenza di lingue europee. Tup, invce, non dispone di strutture ricettive, mentre ne esiste ampia scelta a Karakol. Il predetto valico di Karkara é totalmente privo di qualsiasi servizio frontaliero (cambio-valuta, stazione taxi, autolinee, ecc.). Il personale dell'hotel Altamira (a Karakol), pertanto - se contattato per tempo- può assicurare la necessaria assistenza per raggiungere il Kazakistan, eventualmente con un taxi (costo di circa 50 euro). Parimenti contattando il medesimo hotel da Kegen, in Kazakistan, una volta giunti al confine si potrà fruire di un taxi fatto arrivare da Karakol.
