Marco Polo Hotel - Tawau — Hotel in Borneo

Not much to expect here, honestly — this is a very old hotel, and it shows. I stayed at Marco Polo Hotel mainly for its location, which is probably the best thing about it. It’s right in the middle of Tawau town, so you can easily walk to restaurants, shops, and the market.The rooms are quite spacious, but they seriously need an upgrade. Furniture is old, the carpets look tired, and some of the fixtures in the bathroom don’t work properly. You can tell not much has changed in the last couple of decades.Cleanliness is hit or miss — some areas feel okay, others not so much. I noticed some dust and mold in corners, and a few reviews I saw mentioned cockroaches (thankfully I didn’t see any during my stay, but still… not very comforting).Staff were friendly and helpful though — probably the only saving grace. They were polite and tried their best to accommodate requests.Wi-Fi was weak, TV didn’t have many channels, and overall amenities are outdated. If you’re just looking for a place to sleep and don’t mind the old-school vibe, it might be fine. But if you’re expecting comfort or modern standards, this isn’t it.Would I stay again? Only if I had no other...

This hotel definitely old-schools hotel. Recently change management - of course the expectation from customers surely high.

Suprisingly the breakfast is decent, I have nice Nasi Goreng cooked with butter, mee goreng Sabahan style and toast. Really cosy.

Even toiletries remind me of beautiful childhood growing up with Lux beauty bar. Room up to hygiene standard. Aircond is supercool too.

Housekeepers are all polite with genuine 😊 smile which very rare nowadays. It is nice the employees regardless position start to greet the guests (essence of hospitality industry though).

Lounge karaoke 🎤 was great. My daughters enjoying singing with designated band which also super friendly.

Carpet may be need constant cleaning which may be hectic except changing it one step at the time. + water pressure is needed for high floor rooms.

This was my yearly tour on bike. Purposely to choose this property to try out. This hotel was the top during 80'a and 90's. ||||1) Parking available with security and spacious||2) Surrounding area in front of hotel very quite means you are more relaxing when you arrive.||3) I think the hotel just finish renovated on software. Hotel lobby does look old style compare with other new hotel but its ok cause it being proper maintain expecially cleanliness||4) Room is small BUT room is clean. Still tv box but channel all are clear.||5) Bed is small but comfortable||6) Basic facilities in the room||7) Room package inclusive breakfast but with the rate given i dont complaint about the good ||8) As a big biker, its always the preferences to get a parking at the lobby.
