The hospitality sector is a vital component of the tourism industry. It is the staff at the front desk and the cleaners—rather than the CEO or management team—who are the first point of contact with guests. I was in Tawau from 26th to 28th May 2025 and was introduced to a hotel reputed as the second-best in town. I made no objections, as it had been quite some time since I last visited, having left the service.
Tired from the journey, my family and I were assigned a room on the seventh floor, labelled an "executive room." Unfortunately, the air conditioning was not functioning properly, and my child began to feel increasingly uncomfortable and overheated, even though the thermostat had been set to 17 degrees Celsius. When I attempted to complain, I discovered the in-room telephone was also not working. There was no room service available for food orders either.
When I requested rubber slippers to use in the bathroom, we were instead provided with thin paper sandals. The mini refrigerator emitted a foul odor, and the waste bin was not only small but there was only one provided in the entire room.
Unable to tolerate the situation any longer, I went down to the front desk during the night shift to file a complaint. Unlike the afternoon shift staff who welcomed us without so much as a smile, the night shift staff were friendly and consistently courteous. As a result, we were moved to the adjacent room, which was noticeably more comfortable. The air conditioning and internal phone worked well. However, as with the previous room, the glass in the bathroom appeared not to have been replaced in a very long time.
In the earlier room, the 32-inch television functioned, although channel selection was severely limited. In the relocated room, however, the TV did not work at all. I raised this issue at the front desk after breakfast around 8:30 a.m. 27, but till we checked from the hotel—no one had come to fix it.
Unless there are no other hotels in this town that meet my family's preferences—or unless the hotel owner decides to upgrade the facility—I will not be returning to this establishment ever again. This was a rare and unpleasant experience, one I have no desire...

The hotel features 122 rooms across 10 floors, equipped with amenities like air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and basic minibars.I got a room with sea views. I’d appreciate the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms, though some note that certain furnishings appear dated.
Staff service is generally praised for being friendly and helpful. Breakfast offerings are basic, so I’d suggest you skip that option. There’re plenty restaurant that offer better breakfast around here.
