I recently spent four nights at Tang Dynasty Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, and the stay turned out to be both comfortable and convenient. For a mid-budget hotel, it delivers excellent value, offering a good combination of professional service, clean facilities, and a prime location that makes it especially suitable for both business and leisure travelers.
The staff at Tang Dynasty Hotel deserve the first mention. Throughout my four-night stay, they were consistently friendly, professional, and helpful. Whether it was handling check-in smoothly, responding to my questions about the city, or assisting with minor requests, they always carried themselves with warmth and efficiency. This kind of service makes a real difference when staying multiple nights, as it gives you confidence that you are well looked after.
One of the things I appreciated most is that the hotel offers a variety of budget-friendly room options. This flexibility makes it appealing not only to advance bookers but also to walk-in clients who may need an affordable yet comfortable place to stay in the city center. My room was simple yet very comfortable, with effective soundproofing that allowed me to rest peacefully despite being in a central and lively part of Kota Kinabalu. The bed was supportive and cozy, the lighting in the room gave it a warm, inviting feel, and everything was kept neat throughout my stay.
The bathroom also added to the comfort of my stay. Spacious, tidy, and well-equipped, it came with a large bath that was especially welcome after long days of business meetings and exploring the city. Over four nights, having a bathroom that felt both functional and relaxing really enhanced the overall experience.
During my stay, I also had the chance to enjoy the hotel’s dining options. Both dinner and breakfast were consistently good. The buffets offered a decent variety of dishes, with a mix of local Malaysian flavors and international favorites. The food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, which made it easy to dine in without always needing to look for outside options. For someone staying several days, this convenience was very much appreciated.
One of the biggest advantages of Tang Dynasty Hotel is undoubtedly its location. Situated right in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, the hotel is within easy reach of shopping malls, dining outlets, and city attractions. The location is, quite frankly, “crazy nice.” Over the course of my four days, I found it very easy to move around the city, knowing I could quickly return to a central and comfortable base.
Another pleasant surprise was the availability of a gym, which is not always common in mid-budget hotels. It was a welcome addition that allowed me to maintain my workout routine during the trip. Facilities like this show that the hotel goes beyond the basics to add value to the guest experience.
Overall, my four-night stay at Tang Dynasty Hotel was highly enjoyable. The combination of friendly service, comfortable rooms, convenient dining, and an unbeatable location makes it a solid choice in Kota Kinabalu. For anyone visiting the city—whether for a short trip or an extended stay—I would not hesitate to recommend Tang Dynasty Hotel as a reliable and...

One particular female staff upon checking in, was rude, sarcastic and looks like she should quit her job. It was her fault that there were problems with our rooms and room cancelations, as she was not bothered to listen to us. ||It seems she gave us the worst of worst rooms. Rooms were smelly, very, very dusty, mouldy and not maintained at all. Owh, lets not forget, the "styrofoam" cut out bidet tank cover. - picture proof. ||Towels & bedsheets really smelt musty, like they were never used for years. Called house keeping to change bedsheets, he must have been so embarrassed because there was dust flying everywhere as soon as he unfolded the "new bedsheets" & there was rubbish & dust under the beds too. 2 of my family members had asthma coughs the whole 1st night.||The swimming pool was GREEN! & had "white froth" along the edges. ||Had huge arguement with front desk & management regarding mishandling of room bookings and disgusting rooms. Finally got "upgraded" to "Dynasty Suite" -which was also a joke - uneven, creaking floors, musty smell & dusty as well, window in the main room had missing latch, could not close or lock, so the window was slightly open all the time, biggest joke of all - a missing bathtub/ tub/ hot tub maybe.. dunno what is missing because what is left is a huge space in the bathroom - pic proof. ||Even the lobby is dirty, cobwebs and dust everywhere, above the air-curtains above the main entrance doors. ||We were there in December during the festive season, most hotels in the area were fully booked, so we could not find a suitable place to move out. Saying that it was a festive season, the hotel should anticipate the spike in customers, so they should have at least made an effort to clean the rooms, bedsheets & linens and towels. Clean rooms means happy and...
