Disappointed and Disrespected — Staff Event Treated Like Nothing
We recently organized our company’s annual dinner at Paramount Hotel and had an extremely disappointing experience.
The event setup was a disaster — the screen was broken, the sound system had not even been tested beforehand, and there was no proper support. Every time we asked for help, we were just pushed around from one person to another with no one taking responsibility.
During venue decoration, the air conditioning wasn’t even turned on, making it extremely uncomfortable for everyone. No communication, no assistance — everything had to be arranged by ourselves.
They even charged us just for using the lift during setup. Fine, we can still accept that — but the worst part was the attitude of the staff. The receptionists were all sitting at the front desk, playing on their phones, watching me struggle alone with a heavy trolley, and no one came to help.
When I approached the manager, instead of offering support, she belittled our event by saying, “Annual dinner? Only 7 tables, also consider big event?” I was really shocked and disappointed. Even though it was only 7 tables, our annual dinner is an important occasion for our staff — with recognition programs, lucky draws, and celebrations to appreciate everyone’s hard work. Imagine how heartbreaking it is to hear someone look down on our event like that, especially when it holds so much meaning for our team.
It gets even worse — the manager tried to pressure us by claiming she is “very familiar” with our big boss, trying to use that so-called relationship to intimidate us. But after checking with my father (the boss), he doesn’t even know who she is! Clearly, she was just trying to use fake connections to bully us. When she realized I am the boss’s daughter, her attitude immediately flipped 180 degrees, suddenly becoming polite and helpful. If I wasn’t the boss’s daughter, does that mean my team would just have to accept being treated so badly?
Absolutely terrible service and experience. We will never come back again. Totally unacceptable for any event, no...
Read moreAfter Kuala Lumpur, I flew directly to Sibu with Air Asia and stayed two nights in Sibu in this hotel. Having prepaid for my stay, for just 43 euros all-in, altogether, for two nights, via a Dutch hotel booking website, back home in Amsterdam before i left for my trip, I was absolutely delighted with my room and actually with my whole stay in the Paramount Hotel. The hotel reception could also get me a Grab car within 5 minutes so i had no complaints whatsoever other than the fact that one or two of the reception staff might probably has/have to brush up his or her spoken English, so as avoid any would-be future misunderstandings with the hotel guests, this being apparently mostly a business travellers hotel (as Sibu apparently has very few tourists!). But the whole reception team was actually mostly very kind and helpful during my stay. Extra bonuses for me were the simply wonderful river view from my room as well as the various new developments right behind this hotel, with quite many trendy and hip restaurants and cafes. For in-house guests, without breakfast being included in the room rate, a good set breakfast (both eastern or western) can be ordered on the same morning, at the cafe next to the reception, for just 18 ringgit...
