A Hidden Gem in Langkawi – We’re Already Missing It! We stayed at Panji Panji Wooden House from 29 Sept to 2 Oct, and honestly, we’re already missing it! (Yes, we just checked out this morning — and couldn’t wait to post this review once we touched down!) From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was excellent. Ridzuan welcomed us warmly and even surprised us with a complimentary upgrade to Villa 1 — such a lovely gesture! The whole place radiates peace and serenity — truly a hidden gem in Langkawi. Ridzuan’s service was excellent (yes, we’re using that word again because it fits!). On our second night, the WiFi was down, and he came back after hours just to fix it. That kind of dedication really stood out to us. The rest of the staff were just as wonderful — friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile. A special mention must go to Smiling Buffalo, the on-site café. The food was incredible. We especially loved the tomato poached egg, squid ink pasta, and the SB sandwich — absolute must-tries. And the coffee? Hands down the best in Langkawi, made by a passionate and welcoming crew of baristas and servers. As for the location — perfect. Just under 15 minutes from the airport, close to Cenang Beach and nearby malls, yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful and secluded. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay and will definitely return. If you’re heading to Langkawi and looking for a peaceful, relaxing escape with great food and top-notch hospitality, Panji Panji is the place. Highly recommended!

The place is fabulous but..... Firstly I will mention....there is no alcohol sold or allowed on the premises.....the area outside of the gates looks like a landfill with a lots of rubbish thrown everywhere. Another thing to note is, this is not a quiet place for reminiscing and thoughts, there is a lot of Muslim families and external visitors coming in for lunch and they will literally sit out on your veranda and start making a photoshoot. It was a little bit annoying. You miss the peace and quiet that should come with staying in such a beautiful place. I wasn't particularly keen on the lunch menu. It wasn't great. The pasta (Aglio Olio) was terrible and Nachos were not great either, but breakfast was delicious. Also coffee in here is a must. Another thing is the mosquitos and the fact that you have open bathroom so there will be lots of insects and lizards in your bathroom at any one time. If you're squeemish I'd recommend to stay away. It was one big adventure. The beach is 10-15 minutes walk away and you're quite a distance away from main street and all the shops. Pool is not clean!

The hotel is very nice. The host is super friendly and helpful! The surroundings are beautifull with plants and birds everywhere around you. There is a swimming pool available, but since we rented a scooter and drove around a lot we didn't end up using it. There is a gate on the main rode that closes at night. We had some trouble opening it, but we found out you have to press and hold a button on the remote connected to your key. There's also a gate in the back for a shortcut to the beach if you have a scooter or bike. The food is good, mostly western though. Since I go to Asia for the food as well this was a bit of a letdown. The nasi lemak with beef rendang was very tasty for breakfast and I ate that everyday haha. The only thing Iiked a little less is that this is also a very popular place to have breakfast / eat lunch. So when we went for breakfast, most (comfy / nicest) tables were occupied by non hotel guest. But when we asked if we could eat our breakfast in front of our hotel room, it was fine :). Also the reception was a bit hard to find.

We booked to Villas (Upper Floor) and intended to stay a week at this property. The short review is: Terrible place, we switched to a real hotel after two nights.

The most important point is, that this is not a 4 Star Hotel but rather AirBnB style accommodations. This means there is no staff on site so when things go wrong you have to WhatsApp the manager and she sends someone an hour later. This could be okay except for:

on the first night there was no water in the small room after is was fixed some hours later by filling a water tank with a water hose (!) the water was very dirty as there is no filtering we then were offered a cheaper accommodation as an alternative and we accepted as we wanted to enjoy our vacation there the AC for the master bedroom did not work properly (was fixed next day) the next issue we had was a venomous flying tree snake in the house (the manager lied to us that it is harmless... we travel with kids that could have died) After these issues we spend around 5 hours of fixing or waiting for things to be fixed in total and decided to cut our losses to move to a real hotel (which was the same price by the way) When confronting the manager about all these issues she told us her boss would deduct any refund from her pay-check. Talk about a professional business.

Besides above mentioned issues there are many general problems with the Panji Panji and its concept: The small rooms don't have windows (with glass) so you will sit in the dark whenever you are in the room The bathrooms are open to the outside without mosquito nets. There are A LOT of mosquitos on Langkawi Everything is broken down and worn off, with rusted metal sticking out of places and mould growing on the ceiling There is a party venue nearby that blast its music all night extremely loud, you will feel the bass in your body...

My girlfriend and I stayed at Panji Panji for 6 amazing nights, it was everything we had hoped for and more.

Amazing surroundings with a tropical atmosphere, the rooms are cozy and the small restaurant Smiling Bufallo inside the resort is lovely and provides an amazing free breakfast each day - banana pancakes are a winner and the coffee is great.

The location is far enough away from the madness and chaos of Chenang to be peaceful and quiet when you want it, while also being close enough to allow you to walk for 20 mins or get a Grab (the local Uber) into the centre for about 7rm and a 5 minute drive. There is a restaurant which is a 5 min walk from the resort towards the beach which does amazing fish and local food for very cheap - it was easily the best meal we had on Langkawi.

You will also be able to get a grab to any of the numerous attractions and beaches around the island within 30 mins by Grab - the resorts owner Azmil gave us some brilliant recommendations and each of them is worth looking into. We loved the Night Safari Mangrove Tour, where a small bus will pick you up from the resort.

Speaking of Azmil, he is a fantastic host and takes a special hands-on approach to tailoring his guests experience and making sure they get the most out of their stay at Panji Panji. He is always just a WhatsApp message away and will provide practically anything you may need during your stay, from beach and attraction recommendations, ordering take away food, and even arranging a laundry service for us. He really made our stay feel special.

The rest of the staff do an amazing job and offer amazing service at the restaurant, keeping the resort clean, and making sure to assist you with anything you may need during your stay.

Overall I cant recommend Panji Panji enough, it made our trip very memorable and we hope to visit again...

I have no idea why this place has only 70 reviews! (Although on the afterthought I kind of don’t want it to get flooded by tourists) Panji-panji is a cutest boutique hotel, a mini paradise hidden in the business of Cenang beach. Everything in it has a personal touch and quirkiness of style (vintage memorabilia on site) It’s small: only few villas on the site, yet facilities are ample. There is a good swimming pool, amazing cafe where stylish locals come over for good coffee and instagrammable milkshakes. Villas are stunning, each of them have a small terrace, where you can chill with a book (my favourite part!). Facilities are clean and immaculate (they thoroughly sweep leaves, take care of plants and scrub every day!). At night time there is a dedicated security on duty making sure everything is ok.

But what makes this place stand out from all the places I’ve stayed it’s his owner Asmil. I’ve never seen an owner brining your luggage to the room, helping out staff in the cafe when they are swamped by hipsters taking pics over their perfect lattes (coffee is seriously good tho!), greeting and talking to everybody personally and million of other things he’s eager to do, so your stay is fabulous. For example - he has suggested us the best places to go (beaches, local fish restaurant, activities to do as a must and they were fantastic!), he made sure we get breakfast even though we were leaving hotel super early for morning dives. I mean, the guy is 24/7 online on whatsapp, helping you with every question you may have. I’ve never seen dedication to business and this level of hospitality, he’s an EXCEPTIONAL host!

Panji-panji is real gem, and if you are looking for a place to stay in Langkawi and this place is not booked out yet - get it straight always and consider yourself...
