We booked 2 rooms, 1 night at the Hotel Ipoh City in advance . We have been a regular customer since the year 2007.
We arrived very early on 28th June 2025 around 08:35 am, and the Front Office staff (young man) said the room would only be ready by noon. We understood.
We left our car in front of the Hotel Ipoh City and left for Penang with our friend. Unfortunately, our journey back from Penang to Ipoh City was getting late due to unavoidable circumstances. Therefore, I called the Hotel Ipoh City at 9:58 pm while we were on our way to inform them that we were on our way to check in.
The frontline staff at the Reception who picked up the call (don’t know his name) on 28th June 2025 at 9:58 pm said , "The 2 rooms reserved had already been sold. I called you, no response".
We checked our phone to see if we had received any calls, but nobody from Hotel Ipoh City called. I thought to myself, I don’t want to waste my time arguing, and I called Symphony Suites Hotel for a room.
Once we reached Hotel Ipoh City to pick up our car, my husband went to the reception to clarify, and the staff offered 1 superior room. What is happening? Why he must be very rude? Did he really checked the system before he talk?. Did he consult among his colleagues before he speak?
Overall we are unhappy with the incident.
I give 5 stars only to Normala and a Chinese girl who used to reserve room for us since day 1. Both very friendly and kind. They are always been a good staff.

Read moreMy main purpose for going to Ipoh on a weekend was to catch the Ipoh flea market or locally known as Pasar Karat. It is on every, and as early as 7am, vendors and buyers are already buying and selling stuff - antiques, second-hand comics/ toys/ clothes, pinggan lama, even Norton bikes from the 50s. There are also stalls selling food, tudung, shoes, Tupperware - you name it, they have it.||My point is you might end up with many things, and therefore need a hotel that is nearby to go back and forth with your purchases or just to take a breather. Ipoh City Hotel is a good choice for this purpose because it is like 10 steps away from the flea market. But this is a less than 3 star hotel. No WiFi connection in room, no pool (not that I was there to enjoy the pool), front desk is so so (no smiles but they were not unresponsive), and facilities in rooms are OK for those looking for a place to sleep. We took 2 family rooms which cost us just about RM250 and they came with 2 large single beds, a bath tub in the bathroom and a sitting room with 4 chairs and a table. Very roomy. Overall, it served our purpose of a hotel within walking distance of the...
Read moreThe outlook at the front, as in the lobby is very spacious and grand. It is a very classic look hotel. After checking in, got the room keys, as in real metal keys. Really classic.||||The usual would be the floor where the room will be in the first one or two numbers of the room number.||||Got in the lift and there is only 8 floors. The floor where the room assigned is the second number of the room number, eg. room number is 1406. The floor where the room is 4 and not 14.||||The room is spacious enough. Very classic outlook. The bathroom is rather basic. Bed is okay. TV channels were very limited to less than 10 channels.||||Room is generally clean. the surroundings of the hotel is very quiet. ||||Come Sunday, the main roads just outside the hotel is closed for Sunday market, where stalls were starting to set up as early as 6am. So, getting out and getting back to the hotel will be very difficult as almost the entire stretch is closed.||||So, don't stay here on a weekend,...
