I recently had the pleasure of visiting this charming shop that doubles as a museum for their exceptional herbal tea products, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed! Not only did they offer a wide variety of delicious herbal teas in sachets and canned drinks, but their commitment to preserving the history of their founder's tea business truly set them apart.
From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was greeted by a warm and knowledgeable staff who made me feel right at home. They were more than happy to take me on a guided tour of the museum, sharing captivating stories and anecdotes about the founder and the rich heritage behind each tea blend. It was evident that they took immense pride in their work and genuinely cared about their customers' experience.
The museum itself was beautifully designed, with displays showcasing the founder's journey and the intricate process of crafting their signature teas. The attention to detail was remarkable, and I found myself immersed in the fascinating world of herbal teas. Learning about the traditions, ingredients, and the unique techniques used in tea production was an absolute treat for someone like me, who appreciates the artistry behind each cup of tea.
Now, let's talk about their teas! The selection available was extensive, catering to all taste preferences and dietary needs. From soothing to invigorating herbal tea blends, they had it all. The quality of the teas was exceptional, and I could taste the freshness with every sip. Their sachets were convenient for brewing at home, and the canned drinks were perfect for those on the go.
What impressed me further was the variety of bundles and PwP (purchase with purchase) options they offered. It allowed me to explore different flavors without breaking the bank. The staff was more than happy to provide recommendations based on my preferences, ensuring that I left with the perfect assortment of teas.
I cannot stress enough how exceptional the service was. The staff's passion for herbal tea and their commitment to creating a memorable experience for their customers was evident throughout my visit. They were patient, attentive, and went above and beyond to answer my questions and make personalized suggestions.
In conclusion, this shop and museum is a true hidden gem for herbal tea enthusiasts. It seamlessly blends history, education, and exceptional tea products, making it a must-visit destination. I left with a newfound appreciation for the art of tea-making and a collection of exquisite teas that I continue to enjoy every day. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a unique and delightful...
Read moreYou’ve probably never heard of it. That’s okay. A great story doesn’t need a grand entrance. Dr Ho Kai Cheong didn’t set out to become a legend. He just wanted to cure a fever. But out of the pots and herbs of his little shophouse came a name every Malaysian now knows: Ho Yan Hor.
The museum sits inside the very house where it all began, a modest two-storey building that now hosts memory like it once hosted steam. Make no mistake, this place is small. Fifteen minutes, maybe twenty, and you’ll have wandered through the sparse but meaningful exhibits. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in soul. From war stories to tea tables, from family legacy to Chinese medicine, you’ll feel the weight of a life poured into every display.
The old tools, handwritten notes, faded newspaper clippings – they all whisper about resilience, about grit, about not giving up when your back’s against the wall. And it's air-conditioned. You don’t pay a penny to get in, but you do have to plan ahead. Walk-ins might get lucky, but chances are you’ll be told to come back in two hours or not at all. So make that reservation (even if it's just you and your mother). They limit group sizes to keep things smooth and personal, and it works quite well.
The staff are passionate. Multilingual. Equal parts history buff and tea ambassador. They’ll hit you with a short intro, then let you roam. No pressure, no hard sell. And at the end, the real prize: a tea tasting. You’ll try up to six types. Hot, cold, ginger, mint, floral, bitter, sweet. It’s free, and it’s good. If you’re smart, you’ll take a few boxes home.
Ho Yan Hor Museum celebrates hard work, heritage, and the stubborn will of a man who decided that boiling leaves could change lives. And it kinda did. You won’t leave transformed or reborn, just reminded. That legacy isn't about being loud. Sometimes, it’s just about making good tea for the people who need it most.

Read moreThis was not part of my itinerary. Was actually a side tour and I initially planned to go, only if I had time. Boy, am I glad I made it here! This has gotta be hands down the most informative and well kept musuem I ever been to in Malaysia. Its clean, bright and the tour guide, Lady Soo was so enthusiastic! She just makes the entire tour so much more joyful, considering her advanced age...Lady Soo is a darling! The musuem is FREE, yup FREE of charge. There are time slots though so check it before you pop up. I was a single rider and managed to squeeze myself in, thanks to the kind Lady Soo. She will also serve you complimentary Ho Yan Hor herbal tea after the tour. She gives a preliminary background on the founder and how to self navigate yourself around the musuem. The musuem is 2 floors, located in a restored pre war building so everything is fragile. Please do not touch, but pictures are welcomed. Multi-lingual large posters lined the walls explaining the humble beginnings at the ground floor, while first floor explains their international expansion. Be proud of our local products. I know I felt super proud after the tour. Its small but I think the size is just nice. You can easily spend 30minutes here if you read every artifact's explanation. In addition to the complimentary herbal tea after the tour, you also get to purchase the tea and other products at a promo rate. You can give them away as souvenirs too. Highly recommended to visit in Ipoh. Much more fun and educational than...
